If I lived in Chicago the way it is right now, I would be begging for the government to help. The local and state police can't get a handle on it. They need help!
I would put it in the same boat if a hurricane hit where I live in would hope the Gov'the would help. The innocent people that live there and are afraid of getting killed just walking down the street need help.
What would you suggest should happen to help Chicago??

Unreal. I have no problem with him saying, look, we need to control the violence in Chicago. But he is blatantly race baiting and acting like a dictator by threatening to "send in the feds."
It's not what he says, it's how he says it.

It's good to see him sharing and reacting to what he sees on cable news.
Meanwhile, three southern state governors are still waiting for an official disaster declaration and FEMA help, post-tornado. Not a peep from him on either of his Twitter accounts.

So what would you like to see happen? Genuinely curious. Obama did nothing to stop the violence.

This he should absolutely be doing. But the original post was about Chicago. So I will ask you the same question. What should be done to help Chicago?

Re: Trump tweets/threats to send feds into Chicago.
This isn't a hurricane we're talking about though. It's a direct threat to the city of Chicago that if they don't get their act together, Trump would have the federal govt get involved, overstepping its boundaries when he has been saying all along that the control should be handed back to the states, not the federal govt and that the problem needs to be solved at state level. It's Trump going back on his word.
Has the governor asked for the federal govt's help?

At the moment, they are helping themselves. They have implemented new procedures and added police. It needs some time to work. The weather has also been unusually warm, which typically causes an uptick in violent crime.
Seven other US cities have higher murder rates than Chicago, I wonder why all the focus is there and not on those cities. And most of the violence is contained to a relatively small area of the city. Not saying it shouldn't be addressed, but Trump in the past made Chicago sound like a hellhole.
If Trump was sincere IMO, he would not go on a Twitter rant. Maybe federal help is needed but not everything needs to be a Tweet. It makes him sound like a bully.

I don't disagree about the tweeting but I am happy to see him putting it out there. It shouldn't just be for Chicago. I would say the reason there is a big focus there is because that is what the news has been covering

Trump tweets/threats to send feds into Chicago.
Rahm Emmanuel, former Obama chief of staff, is the mayor of Chicago. Thus, by focusing on Chicago, Trump continues to attack Obama by extension.

Really?? This is where I think you are nuts. Chicago has a major issue that has been going on for some time now. Innocent people are killed playing in parks or walking down their street. Nobody including the Mayor is getting a handle on it. If I live there I would be demanding something more is done.

Chicago is a war zone, no doubt. However, Trump always has an agenda and he picks and chooses his causes based on that agenda. If you don't recognize that, then I think you are one who is nuts.

Here's a recent USA Today list of the ten most dangerous US cities. Chicago is not on it. There was a lot said about Chicago at the RNC, including by David Clarke who is the sheriff of Milwaukee. That city is on the above list. So I don't think the Obama connection is nuts at all.

Trump tweets/threats to send feds into Chicago.
Anyone denying there is a major problem in Chicago has their head in the sand. It is even more disturbing since that Obama keeps saying that it is his adopted home town and that his friend is the mayor and still nothing was done...
This was taken from an NBC article in October...
For Chicago, a city in the grips of a violent crime epidemic — more than 3,000 people were shot this year, with homicides topping over 500 — a quieter but just as lethal challenge looms. In the Chicago metropolitan area the percentage of treatment admissions for heroin was more than double the national average in 2012, according to a study by the Illinois Consortium on Drug Policy at Roosevelt University.
The Chicago area also ranked number one in the nation for emergency room visits related to heroin use, according to the same study. The majority of these visits occurred on Chicago's west side, which had one out of every four opioid-related hospital admissions in the state of Illinois.

No one's denying the problems. But it's interesting to me that Trump and his people seem to be harping on Chicago, when statistically Baltimore, Detroit, Milwaukee, Kansas City, to name a few, are actually worse.

People that hate him will always say he has an agenda. That isn't going to change. The focus on Chicago is definately the media's doing. I hope Trump fixes Chicago and the other dangerous cities in America. I wish the media would cover some of those cities instead of the nonsense they waste their time.on!

Not arguing but I kept hearing that Chicago has the highest murder rate in the country so I looked up the murder rate in Chicago in 2015 since that is the year referenced in the USA today article. There was 468 murders in 2015 which according to this article was the highest in the country and higher than any of the top 10 on the USA today article. Link
I guess it's not on the USA today list because of the size of the population in Chicago the violent crimes per 100K people ends up being lower. Still a very scary number.
ETA: Oh my God, I just looked up the murder statistics for Chicago in 2016 and as of when this article was written on 12/28/16 it was 750 people Link

I don't believe the federal government should threaten its citizens with violence to fall in line. If by "sending in the Feds" he plans to provide funding for schools, social services and invest in cleaning up the the city through useful, impactful legislation then I am all for it.
I do not condone that he is purporting to use violence to fight violence. He is woefully ignorant to claim so.
