Cat post-sedation
Had to bring kitty in to be examined by the vet on Monday morning. She is a horrible patient so they had to sedate her.
It's now Thursday morning She still is 'off'. Sleeping in weird spots, staring into space. She looks exhausted. For food, she is eating a little less than half of her normal.
She hasnt had a bowel movement, but they said after they got her out of sedation her body expelled everything. Now she hasn't been eating as much as usual so I dont know if no bowel movement would be considered 'normal' if she was 'empty' when she left the vet.
How long for your cat to get out of the 'spacey' stage after sedation/anesthesia? And for eating to get back to normal amounts? I cant remember if this is normal for this long. She is 15 years old so I'm super stressed about this, which I'm sure she is also sensing so it probably doesn't help.

Re: Cat post-sedation
My cats have only been put out as kittens when getting spayed/neutered so I am not sure how it would be with an older cat- I would imagine it would be different.
It would also depend how long they were out for etc
I would definitely call the vet to inquire.

Cat post-sedation
I ended up bringing her to the vet. The vet looked at the amount of sedation she was given and said it was a lot.
She is also constipated, which is why she is not eating. The ER drs told us she didn't need an enema, but turns out she really did. I guess they were too lazy to clean upand really didn't care. Won't be going back there again.
Friday she started eating again, and had a difficult litterbox episode. She was really stopped up and couldnt get it out. in and out of the litterbox 8 times over a 20 minute period. So much straining that she puked up all the food she ate in the day. I felt so bad. But hopefully that was the blockage and now she will be more normal (she is on Miralax now). No bowel movement yesterday, but then again the night prior she threw up all food she ate so there would be nothing to come out.
Fingers crossed some presents in the litterbox today.

Aww . Yeah the sedation drugs can cause constipation I am sure. Poor thing. I hope she feels better soon Not sure where you are located but if you need a new vet, I have an amazing one. But I'm in Suffolk.

I think she is doing better. Saturday night was rough, but she finally passed it out.
But I'll take a vet recommendation, since we're not having any luck!
Thanks

Sayville Animal Hospital. I can't say enough about them. My cat is having some pretty mysterious issues and they have been nothing but kind, caring, and professional. Anytime I call I get a vet to call me back quickly and spend as much time as I need them on the phone with me giving advice, suggestions etc. They have called me back with blood work results that came in early at 830 pm on a Friday night. They have had me come in on a Sunday for an xray with almost no notice. You can tell that all the vets there genuinely care about the animals and really work to find a diagnosis. If you take a look at their Facebook page, they have nothing but rave reviews. Prices are pretty reasonable too.

I appreciate it, thanks. I wasn't 100% happy with the vet we saw on Thursday either. They are always so dismissive and never want to explain in detail or answer questions.
I called the ER vet, asking how long before the cat should go back to eating food normally and not be 'wonkey'. They wouldnt answer the question and said I should come in to see a neurologist. i asked the question 3 different ways, so I'm pretty sure they knew what I was asking. But they wouldn't answer a straight question, I'm sure they just wanted $$$ for another visit.
I dont think I'm a stupid person; but sometimes it is nice to be able to ask a question or ask for info to be repeated to make sure I have it correct. I mean, my animal's life is in the balance. I don't want to over/under dose my cat with human medication. Instead the vets I've seen in the past 2 weeks makes me feel like nobody cares.
If the vet really doesn't want to spend time explaining how to dose a med or something, then write it on a piece of paper, and photocopy it since you probably say it all day long. Don't just blow me off.

Yeah that is pretty sh!tty. That is why I was so impressed with these vets. They take the time to explain things in layman's terms, they call you back promptly, they call to check up on the cat, they act like they care about your pet and not just your money, and you don't feel like you are getting ripped off every time you walk in there.
