Back from my first visit to the RE...(long)

Well I finally did it! AHHHHHHHHHH!

I was sooo nervous I was actually shaking. When we first got there, Dr. Saketos' nurse (June, who was soooo sweet) took my weight, blood pressure and medical history down. We then sat and waited to speak with Dr. Saketos herself. We were called into her office and the second I saw her, I totally relaxed. She is SUCH a nice woman! I felt so at ease and was able to talk to her so easily. She basically talked to me about my history, my irregular cycles, read my notes that I had jotted down and answered each one of my questions one by one.

These were the conclusions (well somewhat for now)...

I had to have a pregnancy blood test done today so I can start provera to bring on my period finally. She said it was unhealthy that I havent gotten a period in so long and her main concern now was basically "cleaning me out".

She is sending me for what she calls a "pre natal" blood workup. She described it like the first blood work up pregnant women get when finding out they are pregnant. She is very concerned with my insulin for some reason and tonight I have to fast to have the blood test done first thing in the morning (I have to get it over with, I HATE BLOOD TESTS!)

Once everything comes back..she wants me to start taking Metformin. I am not too sure how I feel about this drug because of its stomach side effects but I want to try anything.

Right now its a waiting game..waiting for blood results, waiting to get my period after taking the provera, starting the MET, losing weight (she wants me to lose some weight before my next appointment with her October 11th), and then see where we are at. She thinks that if my insulin levels are off at all that its a big part of my problem. She seemed very hopeful that I wouldnt need further treatments, including clomid because she thinks I am going to respond to the MET as of now.

My dh is going for his SA tomorrow morning just to cover everything which now of course HES NERVOUS ABOUT..oh please! LOL

All in all, I truly liked Dr. Saketos. I am hoping she has me on the right track. I have to admit, I am a bit dissappointed because I thought we would be able to start trying sooner but she wants everything exactly in place. She is concerned with my health first, which is a very good thing.

On a side note..I dont know if you all remember but..I was very against going for the hsg because my gyno never did any other tests and wanted me to have that done first which I didnt feel comfortable with at all. When I mentioned this to Dr. Saketos, she said that she didnt agree with her at all and she sees no reason for me to have to go for that test at this point. YAY! That made me happy..so now I have to get through tomorrows blood work and see how this medication works for me. Please keep your fingers crossed..losing weight is another barrier that is going to be hard to get over but I am going to try.

Thank you ALL for caring so much and for all of your concern! It means the world to me! Chat Icon

I am so glad to hear the appointment went well. Just so you know, the Met may help you to lose weight too. I have talked to some people on FF and they said they lost weight on it.
Also, not ovulating is related to high blood sugar a lot of the time. When she gets the results back on your fasting levels, it will help her to know how much you need.
I wish you the best of luck and lot's of Baby Dust!!

I'm so glad to hear that your visit went well and you are on a good path Chat Icon Chat Icon

it really does help to hear explanations and answers doesn't it?

I had all my bloodwork done at a Quest lab in NYC. Just an FYI - double check with Quest what days they take blood for certain tests. I had the full "pre-natal" series too and had to go back to Quest on a different day for the genetic series of tests. I would have preferred to have all the blood taken at once.

Good luck!
