warning, warning, warning!!
learn from my scare
since the second week of march, i've been back to running. currently on week 8 of c25k. yay me.
to make things happen and work out with my schedule, i started running nice and early in the morning. my alarm is set for 430am and i head out the door between 445-5am.
i wear reflective gear, use only one ear bud, and keep close to home.
this morning, i got the scare of my life. as i turned a corner, i found myself across the street from a young, thin man who was not happy i was on his street. there were flailing arms, yelling, and then he ran in my general direction.
i quickly ran in the opposite direction and did my best to zig zag so her wouldn't see where i was going... i made a bee-line for the house where i know a retired marine lives.
i don't know if he truly ran after me or just in my general direction and i was not about to stick around and ask questions. i continued to zig zag until i got home.
on a small positive/funny note... my pace kicked ass, this morning. on a larger scale positive note, nothing happened to me.
but it scared me enough to know i have to do more to protect myself. today, i bought pepper spray and a personal alarm.
i have lived in nyc, la, miami... and in some of the less stellar parts of those cities. i have traveled on subways alone at all hours of the day and night. hell, i'll overshare... i have had a family member attempt to molest me when i was a child... and yet, i have never felt the type of fear i felt this morning.
i bought pepper spray and a personal alarm.
since we all know that the world isn't going to change... instead of women being respected and/or just left alone... we need to protect ourselves.
take this scare as a warning... make sure you take care of yourself whenever you're out there by yourself.

Re: warning, warning, warning!!
So scary! Glad everything was fine, but that's terrifying.
I stopped running really early, I only go when the sun is up and the coffee shop and bakery on Main St are open It limits my running time, but it's a scary world out there.
I take my dog when I can, a 60lb pit bull is a great deterrent, lol.

warning, warning, warning!!
Whenever I go out early in the am I always run with someone or I will go to the gym or wait until sun at least it out. It can be very scary at that time in the am with nobody around.

Omg I'm glad your ok. That's so scary!
I stopped walking alone when I swear I may have been abducted one day when I went for a walk after lunch. Guy in blacked out SUV & no plates drove past me. He then backed up very quickly, got out of the truck and looked around suspiciously. Then looked right at me and was walking very quickly towards me. I grabbed my phone, called my sister and ran as fast as I could a few houses up to people walking up their stairs. He looked ahead, saw where I was headed, ran back to his truck and took off! That was 10+ years ago and I haven't walked alone on a side street since. If I walk alone, it's at the local public lake on a very busy day or I take my Rottweiler with me.
Honestly... it was a huge eye opener that day. You hear about these kinds of stories. This is how people go missing :(
Again.. I'm glad you're ok and are now going to be proactive.
