xiphoid process pain? Small update
Long story short, I was really sick with bad GERD and it took 2 months to get under control. During that time, I kept saying my stomach hurt. Like to the touch. Dr. said it was probably gastritis, so I went to my stomach guy. He examined me and said the pain is localized to the bottom of my sternum. Mostly the little nub at the end (xiphoid process) Like it was inflamed.
he sent me for x-ray to be sure I didn't injure myself somehow and not realize it, but it came back fine.
I had endoscopy too for my GERD. Typical results. Nothing to worry about. But this sternum pain STILL Haunts me. the area is so tender all the time. Sometimes I hardly notice it and then sometimes, it's hard to deal with. Dr told me that I may need a steroid injection in the joint if it continued... I'm just waiting on my referral to go back to him to talk about it. I also want my gallbladder checked again bc greasy food kills me for days! And I feel like it's all tied in. GERD pain makes sternum pain worse and when/if I eat one greasy thing - I'm screwed for like a week.
Anyone? Has anyone ever had this? Know of WTF I can do ?!! I'm not looking forward to a needle in my friggin sternum, but I'm at the point where I'll do just about anything to help it.
Thanks!
SMALL UPDATE Primary doctor gave me 6 day small dose of prednisone to see if that helps. As she examined me, she said my xyphoid definitely comes outward instead of going straight down
We are trying this first. If it help, great. And hopefully t lasts. If it doesn't, the injection of steroid done at pain management would be next. And then if tha doesn't work, removing it would be last resort.
Great. Fingers crossed this works

xiphoid process pain?
My coworker had a similar pain and was diagnosed with costrochondritis. I don't know much about it or what causes it, but they never pinpointed her cause.

Re: xiphoid process pain?
I had this. I injured it a few years ago by leaning down on my husband's chest and I felt a pop. It really hurt for a few days (I was worried it broke but I never got it checked). I will say that it still gets sensitive over 5 years later if I touch it and I cannot lean on it.

Oh my! I feel your pain !! I had an X-ray but it didn't show anything. I'm actually at primary dr now. I'm going to ask for a more detailed test. Because this is just torture. 5 years?!! You poor thing
Edited to add : I had to see my chiropractor after tweaking my back badly (I'm Guarding my sternum so much that I lifted something wrong and my back was done) When I went, after massage and adjustment - I asked her about the sternum. She agreed I should get CT or MRI but in the meanwhile, she used RockTape along my sternum to help with blood flow and inflamation. I swear it helped! I took it off yesterday and slowly the pain came back. I may be living w tape on my chest
