Mommy dead and dearest
Did anyone see this on HBO? It is a documentary.
Completely disturbing.
I really did feel bad for this girl.

I didn't watch it - but I saw the story they did about it on GMA with the Father, Step mom and Director.
So very disturbing that this girl could be abused for so long and no one - not even the multitude of Doctors she saw picked up on it.

Yes! Only one doctor seemed to know what was going on but he felt there was nothing he could do.
For a second grade education she was pretty articulate.
It's on HBO demand. Highly recommend.

Just started it. BuzzFeed has a great article with all the details, that's how I got interested in the story.

I think the system and her family failed her. It's so disturbing that her mom put her through all of that.

Just finished. The dad and stepmom seemed so cool, loving and down to earth. Gypsy would probably be a normal 23 year old right now had she been raised by them instead of Dee Dee.

I don't even think she should be in jail for 10 years. Granted, she didn't have to kill her mom to get away from her... but she probably felt like she had no way out.

Re: Mommy dead and dearest
2 things I'm confused about
Did thy not recognize the abuse? Meaning shouldn't she be in a mental facility
And he other part. I get faking a disease, meaning Seeing how you could get away with it by telling people
But it said she had multiple surgeries. How do you have surgeries for things that never existed?

I was wondering that too but I think they said the medicine her mom was giving her actually induced the symptoms her mom claimed she had.
And that one doctor knew something was up and made notes of it in the file, but he said it was never really looked at.

Re: Mommy dead and dearest
This is some story. This girl shouldn't be serving 10 years. She already served her sentence under the care of her mother. She needs therapy not incarceration. The things the family members were saying about the mom! The family all knew she was a POS that couldn't be trusted. At least one doctor knew something was up but did nothing about it. Why was the father not more involved in his daughter's life?

Mommy dead and dearest
I watched this on Saturday night-- after having read articles about it, I was expecting a gripping documentary - it had been compared to Making a Murderer - which I do not think it can be compared to at all, its a totally different feel. It was more of like a Dateline or 20/20 vibe to me. Anyway despite all that the story is completely disturbing, and I too, wonder about the surgeries she underwent and how that all got approved. I wish it was a little longer and went into more detail about certain things, it seemed to only touch the surface I felt like.
