How much do those McMansions cost to build?
Living in Bayside I saw a lot of this in the past 20 years: People buying a ranch house and then tearing it down and building a McMansion.
How much does something like that cost? (not counting the land cost) I always thought the cost of the construction is around 300k
But my wife thought its a lot more. She said if they make the footprint larger then they have to dig the basement so that is $$$$$$$
Plus the design/plans and then the permits thats a long and expensive process she said.
She said its probably closer to 600k.
What do you all think?

3-400 not including interior materials. thats all relative to your taste and budget. ( 40x100 lot)
If i were to start from scratch, i would be building a geothermal home which also adds cost.

Depends on the finishes inside, but when we looked for a home and included fixer uppers, we were told add in 400k to do what we wanted on top of the purchase price and that did not include fully knocking the home down.

This. 400-500k seems to be the standard without upgrades. Most people will say add about 10-15% on to the initial cost for upgrades. Then you also have the cost of tearing down the previous house, additional labor and finishing a basement.

all this but seems a lot of those who do it are in the biz themselves so I am sure they save on labor and all that
