Privacy from neighbor

What do you have in your yard to keep it private?

My neighbor is always in his yard, as are we. He will try and talk through the fence and makes noise on purpose. Chat Icon

I'm thinking relocating my shed against his fence..then maybe tall trees/hedges, water feature etc.

And show me what you have in your front yard separating you from the neighboring house.

THANK YOU!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

nothing! we arent allowed to have a fence! our neighbors behind us beat us ina BRUTAL bidding war in December. They introduced themselves to us over the weekend. They know we're the "other couple" and they were mentioning issues with the house. i felt like telling them " i know more aboutyour house than you do" bu i just smiled and acted dumb.

We have a PVC fence so we don't really see the neighbors while we are in our backyard.

Weird...did you do something he wants to report to the homeowners association?

Nope. We haven't even moved in. I was only at the house waiting for contractors to give me estimates on paint and floors. He also took photos of his house from what I could tell? Maybe he was taking pics of a side angle of his place?? Maybe he's selling? I'm just creeped out by it

Privacy from neighbor

Can you plant some trees? We planted some Leyland Cypress last year September. We got them around 6ft and they're already up to ten feet.

Re: Privacy from neighbor

I agree. Plant some bushes/trees that grow tall quickly. I felt bad making it look like we deliberately wanted to block the neighbor out, so the quick growing bushes really helped lol. I think our bushes are called Privet hedges and I love how they can be trimmed to look like a wall. They are like huge now!

Re: Privacy from neighbor

We planted Leyland Cyprus along the fence line 2 1/2 years ago. They've shot up in size and we can no longer see the neighbors behind us.

Before planting them, I could see right into their house and know everything they were doing while I was washing my dishes at night. Also, before planting them, anytime either of us were in our yard it was awkward since there was zero obstruction, even with a 6ft fence.

Best decision. They were a little expensive, but worth every penny.

For those that purchased Leyland Cyprus trees, where did you buy them?

We had our landscaper plant them, so he just got them at the nursery he uses. I'm not sure where though.

Re: Privacy from neighbor

We used DARTS, the owners are such a lovely couple. They may be a little expensive than some other places but the trees are grown right here on Long Island. I believe depending on where you get them they may not have been grown here and therefore not acclimated to the weather here and could die. We did them in the fall, I believe it was the best time to plant them. He sends people over to plant them for you, of course for a fee. 2

I got mine small from Home depot, about 3 or 4 feet. They are doing well. I planted some last fall and the others a few years ago in the fall. The ones from a few years ago are over 10 feet tall now.
