Am I the only one with an empty fridge?

I just went food shopping and my refrigerator looks empty. I do freeze a lot of food, but not to the point where it looks like my family won't be eating all week. HA LOL

No, my fridge always looks packed.
Even when there isn't anything to eat, it's packed.
I joke that DH shops for a family of 8 when there is only 3 of us

Mine. I just keep telling myself it's because the new fridge is just so much more spacious than the old fridge.

In actuality, I probably need to get better at planning and executing meals at home. My "spacious" fridge causes us to order in/eat out an awful lot. Chat Icon

(In my defense, my 12 yo DD eats like Slimer from Ghostbusters. Seriously. It's crazy. I put food in the fridge and it disappears. Doesn't much matter what it is, she will consume it and look for more. And she is thin as a rail. Makes me think I should probably be swimming 5 nights a week for almost two hours each night also. Ironically, I always used to have a packed fridge when we didn't eat as healthy and ordered in a lot and now that we eat healthier, it appears so empty especially towards the end of the week. Eating fresher food just requires buying less and shopping more often.

We go back and forth between packed and empty regularly. Like a pp said, eating fresh homemade food tends to keep it from staying full. At the beginning of the week when I shop it's pretty packed. I tend to meal prep lunches and sometimes a dinner or two so that fills it up. Then by the end of the week it's pretty bare bones which makes me happy and dh crazy lol.

I feel like mine always looks empty too! We do eat healthy food and a lot of it is fresh. I'm always amazed when I go to someone's house and their fridge is packed. I'm so curious as to what they have in there lol.

My fridge always looks empty

On Sundays, my fridge is PACKED. There are usually 10 prepped lunches. Two large containers of cut up vegetables to last is the week. Plus 2-3 prepped dinners. 20+ Greek yogurts. By Wednesday night, it looks pretty sad.

Re: My fridge always looks empty

The thing is, we do eat fresh homemade food, but DH buys in bulk so end up throwing out a TON of veggies, salads etc.
We need to start buying in smaller quantities, because it's such a waste of food

Menu planning is what really helps with that. I hate throwing out veggies so planning and knowing how many peppers to buy or how big of a container of spinach we'll go through is a big help.

Re: My fridge always looks empty

Mine always looks empty as the week goes on.

I meal prep lunches on Sundays, so there are lunch containers galore, plus containers of pre-cut veggies, cooked lentils/beans, hard-boiled eggs, stuff like that. It dwindles down as the week progresses.

We are vegetarian and our meals are very veggie-packed. I typically shop on the weekend and then do an additional produce run during the week. I despise wasting food so we do smaller quantities when purchasing perishables.

I agree with this! I was throwing out a ton of stuff too because I didn't want to shop weekly. Now I do a quick shop for my menu for the week and save so much money!

Mine is never full. I try to only buy for a few days so the food is not wasted. The only part that is full is the door since its the stuff that lasts longer.

Re: My fridge always looks empty

When either myself or dh goes food shopping the first day it looks packed and by the 3 or 4th day it usually looks empty. My kids and husband are also big snickers so things like yogurts, smoothies, cheese sticks, dips fill up the fridge and go quick.

I do notice during the weeks where I cook most days, like making a pot of soup, a pasta dish, a crockpot meal I tend to have a decent amount of leftovers and the fridge looks full. On weeks where we are ordering in or just eating something on the grill with a veggie the fridge looks empty a lot quicker.
