Closing gifts?
I heard someone say that they get gifts for the people that helped them at the closing (your mortgage guy, real estate agent etc). I love love our team and are so thankful for them but is that weird? Is it a thing lol? We are closing tomorrow

Closing gifts?
You're paying them, even if not directly, plenty. You don't need to get them a gift, but if you loved them then recommend them and write glowing reviews online. I think giving them more business is the best gift you can give, and it's helpful to people who need their services to get a good recommendation.

Re: Closing gifts?
No, you are paying them. My mortgage co gave us a present, we could pick out of a book, and chose a really nice knife block set. Our realtor gave us cash and wine.

Closing gifts?
I have never heard of this, that is insane! As pp said, they should be giving you a gift after all the money you spent!

Closing gifts?
I've also heard people say this, but we never gave gifts. They're making a lot of money from the sale! Heck, I don't get extra "gifts" to do my job. I say NO you don't have to!
Congrats, hope it went well today!!

Closing gifts?
We gave a gift basket to a few people but only bc they were friends of my parents so they all pretty much worked at cost for us. Otherwise I'd agree it's unnecessary.

Re: Closing gifts?
We worked with a FANTASTIC team. We wouldn’t be in our house right now if not for my agent. At the closing, the mortgage woman gave us a bottle of fancy wine. We gave our agent a very heartfelt thank you note and of course recommend her whenever possible.
I don’t think buying a gift is necessary at all, or the norm, but I’m sure people do all sorts of things so it depends what you’re comfortable with.

Re: Closing gifts?
I sold my coop and the agent gave me a huggggeeee orchid. She's also my bff. And when we bought our house our agent gave us a really nice bottle of wine and a fancy cutting board. He also invited us to a holiday party in two weeks as a thank you to all his clients

Closing gifts?
No gifts exchanged at our closing. We knew at closing we wouldn’t be working with that agent again. If we really liked the agent, I would have bought a bottle of premium wine.

Closing gifts?
Hell no. Some guy was paid $500 at my closing to drop off paperwork... no no no no no. Although my realtor is amazing and bought us a $100 gift card and bottle of wine! Him I love!

Re: Closing gifts?
Buying a gift for a realtor (or other real estate professionals) is not necessary. As others have said, we get paid, and in this competitive business, I am always happy when someone chooses me as their agent.
I usually get a closing gift for my clients.
Occasionally they get me something like a gift card or a bottle of wine, or send something like an Edible Arrangement. It isn't necessary or expected at all, but a nice surprise.
But it's customary for realtors to get clients a closing gift (or at least I think they should!), not vice-versa.

No, they are already making money off of you. Our realtor got us a Bed Bath and Beyond giftcard at closing.

Re: Closing gifts?
I purchased a condo recently. The paralegal and the realtor's administrative assistant were super helpful so I gave them each a $20 gift card to Starbucks. Just a small token of my appreciation for all their hard work.
My realtor gave me a $100 gift card.

Re: Closing gifts?
I know this is an old post but I know its a good reference for others. Uhm no. WE were given gifts for giving these people business. Our mortgage broker gave us a few bottles of Moet to celebrate the closing and our agent gave us a fantastic reference book about the island. Everyone else just gave us a good price for their services lol

Closing gifts?
It really is not necessary but of course this is really nice. It usually is the other way around. Your real estate agent/broker may get you a gift.
