I'm sad that it was that close of a race but thrilled that voter suppression didn't stop him from being taken down.

I really wish there was a way to make voting in every state tamper proof - from the Russians, from hackers, and cheating politicians.

Re: Roy Moore

Over 650,000 voters in Alabama would rather have a pedophile and sex offender in office instead of a person from the other party.... Chat Icon

IQ45 is still declaring a personal victory (of course... Chat Icon )
He is now tweeting "The reason I originally endorsed Luther Strange (and his numbers went up mightily), is that I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election. I was right! Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!"

No.... the person you supported (Strange) lost bigly, and then the person you supported in the GE (Moore) lost bigly.... that means the you lost doubly bigly....

This election doesn't mean that the country is going to make sweeping changes in the electorate, but it is another indication that the GOP doesn't have a mandate to do whatever they want, and that the candidate's personal background does have an influence.

I agree. Those numbers speak volumes about people's mindset and it's very disheartening. But what also speaks volumes is that Trump, with all his ugly rhetoric and past won Alabama by 28 percentage points and a year later the numbers have shifted drastically. So there is hope!

The key is getting people out to vote. Most white middle class people vote religiously, but other groups have lower turnouts. Hopefully, a light will go off that, in order to promote your beliefs, you need to get out and vote. I'm reading that there was a 40% increase in voter turnout in Alabama, so that's an amazing start.

Re: Roy Moore

I want to make something very clear - local people of color made this happen. The evidence is extensive.

BUT there is something small up here that we can do in ANY election. If you're like minded, please check out Postcards to Voters (link below.) It's a quick way to resist a few minutes here and there. All you need are postcards, stamps, a pen, and an internet connection. You don't need to go to meetings or join a group. It's super easy. For Alabama, approx. 350,000 postcards went out. It had to have helped even a little. FM me for more info.

I heard on the news last night that women of color had a significant increase in turnout. I think these elections are starting to show people just how important voting is and just because an area has typically been Republican or Democrat doesnt mean it will stay that way forever.
