Question about gift giving
This year, my DS (7th grade) decided he wanted to buy Christmas gifts for about ten of his friends. No agreement about exchange, he just wanted to buy them gifts. We went to Five Below and got a bunch of little gifts and he was fine with that. Some gave him gifts, some didn't. He was fine with that. One child gave him a gift worth about $45. I don't know what to do with this. We gave that child some cheap gift and I feel this is overly generous. My DS loves the gift. Should we buy an additional gift? Just leave it alone? I already texted the mom thanking her and telling her it was overly generous. Suggestions?

Question about gift giving
I wouldn't get something else. She probably knew the gift received wasn't worth $45 and they chose to spend that much. Is it a fun toy to be played with by multiple kids? If so, maybe invite the kid over for a play date and let them play with it together.

Re: Question about gift giving
I like the PP's idea, about inviting his friend over for a playdate. And yes, I wouldn't get anything else.

Re: Question about gift giving
I would not buy another gift. I would take him and your DS to do something special and pay for it ie the movies, a show, mini-golf....whatever they are into.

Thanks for your help. It was just totally unexpected. I think a movie would be good.

Question about gift giving
i like the idea of taking the other boy on an outing with your son. also- i wouldn't worry too much about it. For all your know, it could have been something the boy got for his birthday or something, but already had, so he regifted it to your son. so, they might not have paid the full amount for it.... even if they did, that was their decision. Just as long as you teach your son to be grateful for it (which it sounds like you did...) i say you're good!
