We are suspecting DH may be lactose intolerant. He has a difficult time with ice cream and milk-based foods (like mac and cheese). Not so much regular cheese. How would he get tested for this?

Re: Lactose Intolerance

There is a test your PCP can send you for. you drink some type of drink and then do a breath test. My sister did it. She wasn’t lactose intolerant.

A lot of Years ago We suspected I was lactose intolerant. My dr made me stay away from all dairy for 2 weeks to see how my symptoms were. All issues went away completely within a. Couple days. Then I ate dairy and it came right back. Even a choc chip cookie would set me off from the butter. I take digestive advantage lactose defense (order 6 packs at a time on amazon - much cheaper then in stores) every morning (2 pills a day - it calls for 1 but that was t enough for me ) iit has lactase and also is a daily probiotic. With that, I can have all dairy without incident. Only once it failed me and that was at Hershey and a huge fresh ice cream cone. It wasn’t pretty hahahahaha

Yes, easy test but it takes a little while. His gastroenterologist can do it. You have to breathe into the machine like every half hour for two hours or so. I was positive. I prefer not to take any lactase and just avoid the foods that set me off. Having said that there is lactose in so many things we are not aware of: hot dogs and roasting chickens (they are injected with a buttery substance for flavor) are two that come to mind.
