disney enthusiasts- dining plan question

Dh, DD and I are planning a trip with our friends and their son and we were looking into the packages with the hotels, tickets, and dining plan. However, i get big discounts at hilton properties, and the doubletree suites, and the hilton buena vista palace (both in disney springs) are considered "official walt disney world" hotels. They are only like $60-70/night for us depending on the dates we choose. We like the doubletree suites because we would have a separate living area with sofabed and kitchenette. We get free disney transportation to all the parks, we get the extra magic hours, and we get the fastpass+ as well.

However, because it's not a disney resort, we can't add the dining plan. It is worth staying on property and doing the tickets, hotel, and dining plan all together?

That sounds like a great deal! You can just pay oop for dining. The dining plan is a lot of food. Character meals are expensive though so if you do a lot of those it would be worth the dining plan. But to stay on property would be a lot more a night. You’re getting all the perks with what you have now.

We stayed at the Doubletree a couple years and we really liked it! The suite was spacious and we walked over to Disney Springs a few times. We never do the dining plan when we go to Disney.

thanks everyone.. my friend is interested in the contemporary resort because of the monorail, boat and shuttle access to the parks. she wants to be close to everything when we go and i totally get it, but part of me is wondering if it's really worth it. I've been to disney 7-8 times and i feel like we are never in the rooms anyway

We stayed at the contemporary and to us it was worth it. Being able to walk to MK was priceless to us. Plus we had a theme park view so after the girls went to bed we watched the fireworks from our balcony.

how was the room size? DD always has a hard time sleeping when she's in the room with us.. she sleeps better in her own room, so i wanted to look for a room with a separate living area or something for a pack and play

Room was big. Dd2 slept in her travel crib next to my bed.

i don't think just the dining plan would be worth it - although I do love the dining plan.. but staying on a monorail resort is more "worth it" to me.

Yes, I got spoiled with the monorail resort and don't know if I can ever go back. Even when we had to take the bus to and from Animal Kingdom, there was no line while the other resorts were swamped with people.

thanks everyone! I think because the kids are still going to be small enough that they would need to come back for naps and whatnot, we are going to go w/ the contemporary. Being at a monorail resort would be a lot more convenient for us so that we can go back and forth more easily

You will love it! It’s priceless being able to walk back and forth to MK (quicker than even taking the monorail)
