Bleeding in week 3 on the pill
I have been on the pill forever. I’m on ortho tricyclen lo. Never had any issues. The last few months I start bleeding on my 3rd week of the pill (usually the 2nd day in) and then by the 4th week (green pills), I have my usual super heavy flow so now my period is lasting 2+ weeks.
I have my annual checkup next month so I will talk to my dr then, but anyone else experience this? It’s so annoying and never happened before.

Re: Bleeding in week 3 on the pill
I think it may be time to switch your pill. You shouldn’t have a super heavy flow while on BCP anyway. Your lining shouldn’t be building up to be that thick. Maybe your own hormones are coming through? I’m pretty sure your OBGYN will change your prescription
ETA: no experience with a pill not working anymore. But I have been on BcP that just didn’t work with my body. It took a Few to find one that worked. I’m actually planning on going back on BcP soon for very heavy periods and my dr was going to give me what you are on now

Interesting. I’ve noticed since my 3rd child, my flow has been super heavy! Like I soak through overnight pads in 2 hours during the day (sorry for the tmi). My obgyn has told me it’s because of hormones, age, etc. (I’m 38). I was hoping the pill would’ve helped with my periods, but obviously nope.

It’s definitely a hormonal shift but the point of bcp (not just for actual birth control) is to regulate your hormones. So if you’re having heavy AF, you definitely need something that will regulate you better then what you are on now.

Ortho Tricyclen Lo is 2 things...it's a low dose pill, and it's also tri-phasic, meaning that each week you shift to a different level of hormones. One (or both) of those don't work for you.
OTCL never worked for me either. I needed a monophasic pill and then I never had any problems.

Wow. Never knew this. I’ve been on this pill so long I was afraid to switch but it’s definitely time to switch.

Re: Bleeding in week 3 on the pill
ME! this happened to me. Except i was on Loestrin FE.
I put up with it for way too long. I would get my period a week before, sometimes two times a month, sometimes i would spot in the middle, spot twice a month in addition to my period, etc etc. It was all screwy and ridiculous!
i finally told my doctor and i've been switched to Sprintec.
On my 2nd pack and so far no issues. i got my period exactly when i was supposed and how i did a long time ago.
definitely ask to be switched because as you get older, your body changes and your hormones change.

I am also on Sprintec. No issues except I skipped a month where I didn't take the pill ( I was on a ton of antibiotics) and when I restarted the following month, I had bleeding in the 3rd week, but after that, no bleeding until I was supposed to.
