What a disappointing game
I think the Mets really blew last night's game. The pitching was subpar, and Willie left a few of them in for too long. It was obvious from the second inning that Maine didn't have great stuff. During the division series, Willie was willing to go to his bullpen early. Even though they'll have to play 3 more games in a row, the bullpen was well rested. I was surprised he didn't take Maine out earlier.
Also, I didn't like his decision to put Valentin ahead of Chavez. I know he wants speed at the bottom of the lineup, but why put someone who hadn't had a hit all post-season and hit .215 in September ahead of a guy who has a much greater ability to come through in clutch situations? Last night Valentin was up a few times with runners in scoring position, and he hit into a double play and flied out.
Initially I wasn't expecting a win since Carpenter is a great pitcher, but he didn't have great stuff. How many times can you give up a lead?  I hope the pitching looks better in St. Louis.

The game started out so good..then BAM we just stunk!
Pitching wasn't too hot at all!

I agree. Very disappointing.
I also think that when Franco bats it's an automatic out. He never gets a hit. I know he's great in the clubhouse, but he needs to get on base.
Trachsel needs to be great tonight.

My dh was very disappointed in the players last night ! he said they could have pitched better. I hope they dont put Franco in today.
