No tub

We are getting ready to do the hall bathroom that our kids share. Kids are older and no one takes baths in our house. They really want a walk in shower like I have in my bathroom. It has gotten really annoying with them always using my shower and we want to go for it but that leaves us with no tub in the house. This is most likely our forever home. Does anyone else have a home with no tub?

Re: No tub

I love a soaking tub and just put one in but, when we move into our forever home, I will not be caring what anyone else thinks of my renovations.
If I were you, I'd do the walk in.

Do the walk in.

I just renovated our upstairs bath and really wanted a walk in (even my 2 year old is strictly showers) but since this isn’t our forever home I went the safe (and economical) route and replaced the tub.

But you better believe I am ripping every tub out of our future home and not thinking twice!

Re: No tub

I am the opposite, I just added a soaking tub to my bathroom reno.
I thought about a larger shower for a hot second, but I have missed having baths. I'm a huge fan of soaking in a hot tub after a bad day.

But do what works for you.

You said this is most likely your forever home so it really doesn't matter as long as it works for your needs.

my cousin bought a house from an older couple and they had beautifully redone bathrooms, but got rid of a tub. At the time, it wasn't even a thought in their mind that there wasn't a tub and they bought the home. Now she's pregnant with twins and they are annoyed to be spending the money to install a tub.

I feel like i would probably want to keep one tub in the house because some people just like having a bath to use for themselves, their dogs, or their kids.

It’s your forever home so I think you should make it 100% that will make you happy. I don’t think you should think twice about this.

I say do what works for you if you're planning on staying. My house has a similar layout and my kids do use the bath now. In the future it would be nice but we also use it for the dog :)

Re: No tub

Is there room to squeeze in a shower without sacrificing the tub? If not, you said this is probably your forever home so you should do whatever renovations make you happy. Even if you change your mind and decide to sell, if I love the house a lack of bathtubs wouldn't be a deal breaker for me as a buyer as long as there was the potential room to renovate and put one in myself if I wanted one.

this is hard.. But I don't think I would ever take away all the tubs in the house. Even though I am also in my forever home.. I just think "what if". I mean, my daughter recently broke her ankle and couldn't stand in the shower... she had to take baths. so , I just personally would be too afraid to take it away

If you're SURE this is your forever house, then do what you want. I'd just make sure you still leave enough space so that a tub could be installed in the future. When we were looking at houses, we saw one we really liked, but there was no tub in the house. We knew we'd have to install one before we moved in. We wound up walking away from the house, and the lack of tub was definitely one of the reasons.

I would never leave a house without a tub. Even if it’s your “forever” home there is still a chance you will sell after kids move out.
