Flooring - help needed!
Below is a sketch of the floor plan of the house I am buying. I need help on deciding a couple of flooring questions. I am putting the same laminate (or vinyl plank flooring) in the living room & dining room. I haven't completely decided on the actual flooring yet, but I think it will be a medium wood tone - not too dark and not light. All of the bedrooms and the hallway they are off of and the 3 steps have hardwood flooring and I am having the floors sanded and stained. The sellers have the room with the ? set up as their office, but I am setting up an office in one of the bedrooms. I am thinking of making the ? room a sitting room, with a couple of comfy chairs, a bar, wine rack type room - but open to other suggestions! The entrance area and space between all the rooms is a plain white/tan tile and for now, that is going to have to stay.
For the LR I am thinking this rug
and a sofa similar to this
Originally, I was thinking I would put the same laminate flooring in the ? room and get an area rug for there too, but then I started thinking that it would be too many rooms that had the same "look." So, then I thought maybe carpeting in that room, in a navy blue - so it would kind of coordinate, but not be the same as the other rooms. (I know, carpeting is not "in", but I'm just worried about the rooms looking to similar). Not 100% sure on wall colors wither, but leaning towards an oyster white for the LR & DR and a greige color for the entrance area and all of those walls
So, my questions are:
1. Carpet or laminate/area in the ? room
2. Does the laminate flooring in the LR & DR have to match the stain in the bedrooms/hallway? The only part of that you will see from the entrance area is the 3 steps that lead up the the hallway.
All thoughts and ideas are greatly appreciated!

Re: Flooring - help needed!
Love the rug and the sofa (I almost bought that rug for my living room, bought something very similar.) I would probably put the same flooring in the ? room. Maybe do a solid color area rug (navy?) for something different. I don't think those floors need to be the same color as the other wood. In fact, where they are not the same flooring I think it would look better if there was a contrast in the color. Good luck with your new home!

Not what you asked exactly, but why not knock down the wall between the LR and the ?. Then you have a bigger living space and can do one floor.

Actually, that was the way the house was originally built -with an opening between those 2 rooms. But for now, I think I am going to keep it as 2 rooms - maybe eventually open it up, but I want to live with it the way it is now and see how I like it that way

I would take down the wall, or at least open it up to the living room and add French doors as an option to separate it from the living room to use as a guest room as necessary.
Otherwise I would use it as a TV room / lounge area. I'd use the same flooring as the DR / LR in case you decide to take down the wall, at least you have the same floor in place. You can always put down a nice area rug.
Nice carpet, has gorgeous colors and a nice pattern.

I would do the same floor and then make it it’s own with a different type area rug.
Definitely get extra of that floor to keep for the future Incase you do decide to take down that wall to make LR bigger space - it’ll have same floor and you’ll have planks to fill in gaps (and it hopefully fits well)
I would do similar shades for flooring everywhere. Because it’s wood look laminate, it may be weird having a different shade all together so close to each other.
Love the rug and sofa

Re: Flooring - help needed!
I would have the same laminate flooring installed throughout. Try and find a close match in color to the existing hardwood.
I love area rugs. So many choices in colors and designs and really warms a space.

Laminate or vinyl. I hate carpeting.
We’re having vinyl planks installed next week. I’ll let you know how they turn out. The samples looked awesome.
ETA our planks are going in the kitchen which you get to through the living room. The living room has light/medium hardwood and we chose a very dark wood for the kitchen. I think non matching is fine as long as it’s complimentary. I’ll send pics when it’s done so you can see.
