I have no experience with this exactly (never been to Alaska, but I love fishing for trout).
Alaska is known for its Salmon and Char. You want to go there the right time for the Salmon Run (September to November). I would plan around that time. You also don’t want to be stuck in the winter in Alaska. There is just no light (I say this bc I’ve been to Finland and they have the same climate there).

No worries! Remember I have never been there. I do have a close friend that lives there.
I would aim for end of September to beginning of October. That way, you get the salmon run in and you still have light before DST.
Your H should also check on the licensing for fishing there. He should also check on what kind of bait he could use.
And most importantly— enjoy yourself in the spa!
ETA: Your H should really research the different rivers he wants to fish. This makes all the difference (I am a fisher; only freshwater). Does he like saltwater fishing? That’s a total different animal. I’d base yourself around a river he is interested in and then just find an awesome spa.
ETA: My timing might be wrong. You could perhaps go earlier. Your H really needs to research the correct timing for a salmon run.

Oh totally, he'll research all that stuff. I guess that's where we'll start, what he's fishing for and look for the place. He's a saltwater guy, but who knows maybe he'll be open to trying freshwater.
We'll have to really sit down and look at it when we have time ha whenever that is

Re: Anyone been to a fishing lodge in Alaska?
I was a bit bored and I did some google searching for you. I can live through you vicariously.
This place looks awesome:

It seems to be a bit pricey. The thing is they give a nice timeline on the fishing seasons for the different fish.
This site is informative:

Send them to your H, and get him started!

Exactly, they gotcha. I would do fishing vacations in Austria and it was a captive audience. You pay a bit, but take every advantage of what you pay for.
