media witch hunt

So now people are up in arms over what Samantha Bee said about Ivanka. Personally, I think her and Rosanne aren't even in the same category. I get that people don't like the C word, but it's a comedian telling a joke on a comedy show. However, Roseann has a history of tweeting racist comments (not for comedy) and liking/retweeting other hateful and racist messages.

I know advertisers are pulling out of Full Frontal (Sam Bee's show) but I hope TBS doesn't pull it. It's such a slippery slope of going back to the 50s when people can't tell what's said for comedy and what's someone's true intent.

Take the Michael Richardson incident from many years ago. He was on stage, telling jokes. And then he started calling hecklers the N word. You can tell intent - it wasn't comedy - it was him being angry and saying racist stuff.

And here's another great breakdown of why the two are different.

Re: media witch hunt

if it was said about Obama's daughters would it be different?? B/c I feel like the reaction would be far different.

C word is used to devalue and humiliate women. What roseann said devalues a person of another race. To me its all the same. I dont find any humor in it. Nor do I think its acceptable.

I've liked the old Roseann show but didnt watch the reboot and Roseann is a known anti semite, racist, etc. The people that work with her should not be shocked by her behavior.

So much for empowering women.. calling other women the Cword for comedy.

I cant stand all of it. Roseann, late night comedians..ugh. The hypocrisy of the media is ridiculous.

I tend to agree.
Is a racist comment worse than a misogynist comment?
Personally I think it's all terrible and gross- and I don't care if it's coming from a democrat, republican or who it's said about

Roseann is a comedian as well. I think its the platform to which people are making statements on is where the fine line truly is.

That's why I mentioned the Michael Richard's incident. Roseann is a comedian, but her intent wasn't to be funny.

Re: media witch hunt

I am one of the most liberal people you will ever meet and am certainly no fan of the Trump Family. However, I find calling someone (ANYONE) the cword to be totally disgusting. It doesn't matter if it was not a racist comment. Even though it was coming from another woman, it was a mysoginistic comment. Who cares of she was trying to be funny? Why is it funny to call a woman a degrading name?

media witch hunt

The whole thing is ridiculous. People just need to start being respectful of one another. There is nothing funny about calling someone the C word or claiming someone looks like an animal. If comedians can not be funny without being degrading then they shouldn't be given air time. That goes for all, late night hosts, actors, comedians, and who ever else gets paid to entertain us. They make their salaries to entertain not to degrade. I do not want to hear nor do I care what their political views are. That is not what I'm watching them for. Social media is the downfall of society.

Exactly. Just because it's against the Trump family doesn't make it any more ok than a racist comment by Roseanne.
It's all disgraceful.
And not funny.
There should be no double standard. It's all despicable.

Exactly! The comment was so uncalled for. And at a time when the whole #metoo movement is trying to promote women's rights and support of women. I always say women are their own worst enemies.

I'm so sick of the climate we are living in right now. I don't care what the media says, there truly is a double standard. I used to love Jimmy Kimmel but I can not stand the non-stop political rants. I have been watching GMA for 20 years but I am so sick of them too. In the first segment of the show, they tell you the latest and greatest with the president and then highlight what a jackass he is in whatever way they can. Last week I was very interested to see the story about when he was here speaking about MS13. I missed the local news the night before but I figured I could catch it on GMA. Nope! Didn't even mention that he was here, in their very own backyard, speaking about gang issues. I couldn't believe they didn't feel that it was an important enough issue to discuss what happened. Maybe because I live on LI which is saturated with gangs that I have a heightened concern about it but I was stunned they didn't mention it at all and annoyed because I wanted to hear what he had to say. I guess whatever he was saying was not narcissistic, childish or just plain idiotic so they didn't feel the need to discuss it. Chat Icon

I agree 100%.

So now we're downplaying justifying someones misogynist comment to someones racist comment?? Wow!

As much as I loved Roseanne both the old and the new shows she absolutely deserved to be shut down and I hope the same thing happens to Samantha Bee.

BTW I guarantee had Samantha Bee made that comment on her platform towards Obamas girls heads would be exploding.

These comedians and late night hosts are no better than their vile disgusting hate filled rants
