What to do/see/eat in Hilton Head ?
DH and I are driving down to Hilton Head for a week in October, staying at the Westin Resort ?
What can we see / do / recommendations on places to eat ? We'd like to do a day trip to Savannah as well.
The main purpose of our trip is to scout the surrounding area as a potential move for our retirement. If we like it, we will go back for different seasons.

I’ll give you a few tips for Savannah as I haven’t been to Hilton Head. I have family from Savannah, so I’ve been there quite a bit.
River Street in Savannah is where it’s at. There is a really good candy shop (Savannah’s candy shop) that has awesome sweet treats. For a savory meal, Spanky’s is also great on River Street.
If you head into downtown there is the ice cream shop (Leopold’s) which is great.
If you want to get a quick lunch then there is the District Cafe (my cousin owns it) and the grilled cheese of the month is divine.
People like Paula Deen’s restaurant, but I thought it was OK. I have heard Mrs. Wilkes is better.
If you like cemeteries, Bonaventure is really nice. Lovely Spanish Moss.
Tybee Island is also a good day trip. Eat the boiled peanuts!

What to do/see/eat in Hilton Head ?
My parents live in Hilton Head for a few months a year - its really relaxing and October is a great time to go. If you golf you are in luck, tons of courses. I also love to go to the beach at the Sea Pines Beach Club - its not a private club. They have a great deck with a restaurant and a beach bar. Love it there.
I would go to Harbour Town and walk around, have a drink, look at the yachts, South Beach has the Salty Dog which is a huge restaurant with a huge patio (you will see a million T-shirts). Many people love to rent and ride bikes. Right off of the island are some pretty good outlets if that is your thing.
The restaurants don't blow me away, we don't go out too often when we visit, but we like Truffles, Ombra, Jane's has a good brunch.
Enjoy - my parents are enjoying their retirement and my aunt and uncle just moved right off the island to Bluffton.

DH has a friend who lives in Bluffton, in the Sun City development. I'm kind of eh about it. Jimmy Buffett is opening a Margaritaville themed community in Hardeeville, close to 95 so we will take a look at that. I'm just not sure if I want to be part of a 55+ community, or any community for that matter. I want a free standing house, not a townhouse, not a condo. Coming from a co-op, I am so over having shared walls and no privacy.

Thank you. Tybee is on our list of things to do, if not this trip, then the next one. I am also looking for a little bit of relaxation, one of the reasons why we booked the Westin, so I can do some resort and beach stuff and hit the spa for a massage or two.

My Aunt & Uncle live in a golf community in Bluffton called the Crescent. They like it a lot - it is not 55+, there are a lot of folks their age, but also younger too which they like. A lot of the communities have free standing houses - my mom has a friend in Sun City and her house is really nice.
