Gimme all your interior remodel recommendations!
My BF and I are closing on a home in about a month (no date yet, ugh!) and we’re going to be pulling up the carpet and painting right away (they were smokers and house is outdated)..we’ll also need major pieces of furniture - living room/bedroom sets.
So, gimme your recommendations!
We’re going to do laminate flooring and we’ve been looking at Home Depot and Costco (my mom’s a Costco fangirl lol). My parents have installed floors a hundred times, so anything that’s self-install friendly is best. Any thoughts?
And recommendations for furniture? Seems like places like Ashley’s are cheaper but I read horror stories about the customer service. Jennifer Convertibles is having a sale, but I don’t know how the quality is?
We’re also going to be painting over paneling if anyone has tips for that.
Any other thoughts or advice is welcomed!
Thanks!

Def. this. We got the laminate for our entire second floor there. Great stuff reasonable pricing.
We bought most of our furniture at Ashley 7 years ago. I have zero complaints.
We got our dining room set at bobs 6 years ago, no complaints there either BUT we really only use it a couple times a year

I recently had an Armstrong vinyl plank flooring installed - got it at LI Paneling & Flooring. They are very good there - I couldn't decide what flooring I wanted and was able to take home multiple sample boards and then continued to switch them out for different ones until I finally decided. They also answered a lot of questions that I had about laminate vs. vinyl plank.
I got new living room furniture at Stanley's in Patchogue - they were also very friendly and helpful.

If your mom is a Costco person, they have some really nice furniture at good prices. AND - you can return it if you change your mind. Yep, even a sofa. My mom got leather couches there about five years ago and they were a great price. Still in great condition, so comfortable and really good quality. Wish I got them for my house!

I'm going to check out LI Paneling - thanks guys! My mom thinks she's used them in the past.

Yeah, I saw they have furniture. I have a young cat that I'm worried will scratch the crap out of out of a couch, so I don't want to spend *too* much..and definitely not leather for that reason. But I'll still check them out.
My mom just returned a vacuum to them after using it for 10 months because it was too bulky. I'm definitely going to go there for my small appliances!

congrats!! I would recommend the macy's furniture clearance center in carle place for some furniture pieces. It's hit or miss, but totally worth checking out, especially for side tables and accent chairs and things you might not necessarily use too often

I have to say all my furniture is from Raymour and/or Ashley and I've never had an issue with them at all. Macy's is great for furniture too- their service is awesome.

Re: Gimme all your interior remodel recommendations!
Congratulations!
I think the best thing you can do is really take your time and find your unique style when it comes to decorating. Buy pieces that you like because YOU like them, not because it’s whats trendy right now.
For example, in only a few years, the whole rustic interior look is going to be very dated. Any farmhouse sink that isn’t in an actual farmhouse or shiplap on the walls is going to scream “I redid my kitchen between 2008-2018”
Take your time finding your accent pieces and decorative items. Look online - houzz is an awesome website to find ideas. Don’t be afraid of color. Add plants, but check before buying because some are toxic to cats.

This. I feel like my house screams- 2001-2008 actually. Which is even worse. I hate it. And now to redo everything is costing a fortune. I am going for more classic, timeless looks and color palettes now. Lesson learned.

I feel like every house circa 2001-2008 has baby vomit "breige" walls, brown microfiber sectional, TV on the wall flanked by two ornate metal wall sconces, kitchen with "rustic rooster" decor and an oak kitchen with shiny white applicances.

LOL, Close. We did update the living room a bit and got rid of that orangey oak furniture that was sooooo 2001. But my kitchen. Oh lord. No rustic rooster, but we have that whole terra cotta clolor scheme, those hideous orangey oak cabinets(they were there when we bought the house in my defense), dark granite. I wish I would never have gotten dark granite when we updated the counters in about 2006 because now I feel stuck with it because granite is pricey. We are going to get the cabinets painted or resurfaced, and the backsplash and paint are no big deal to change, but the granite. Ughhhhh

Re: Gimme all your interior remodel recommendations!
Checked out LI Paneling & Flooring today. Everything is definitely pricier than Home Depot/Costco, but I imagine the quality is also way better. I like that everything is made in the U.S. I can't even find where the Home Depot brand is made.

I'm not sure I have style when it comes to anything, LOL..my style is usually "What can I afford"
I am going for "beachy" in terms of flooring and wall colors and probably decorations. I'm a very unique Long Islander lol, but I started hand lettering and have photographers in the family, so that'll probably be most of my wall art.
The house is from 1965..paneling in the great room. mustard yellow counter. pink bathroom. curved walls. carpets EVERYWHERE. those stair rails that are perfect for your toddler to climb through and plummet to the floor.
it'll need a lot of love probably why we got it for the price that we did. No one wants to be bothered to put in any elbow grease!
