Stuttering support group
Does anyone know of a support group type setting for a 9 year old who stutters? Not looking for 1 on 1. Looking for a group of kids who stutter to meet to reassure them that they aren’t alone. Does something like this exist? Nassau preferred

Stuttering support group
have you heard of Friends: The Association of Young People Who Stutter? I used to run a stuttering support group for adults who stutter through the National Stuttering Association. But it was hard to get people to attend meetings. Both the NSA and Friends have annual conferences that are great. I'm a speech pathologist who stutters.
I don't know of any groups for kids off the top of my head. Steffi Schopick in Syosset might run groups, but you'd have to contact her. She is great. https://www.friendswhostutter.org/ http://www.stutteringtherapylongisland.com/staff.html http://www.westutter.org
That's awesome you are trying to get your son support. I didn't find other people who stutter until I was a teenager and having that support really helped me become who I am today. It's hard thinking that you are the only one.

Re: Stuttering support group
Thank you for your reply! We actually saw Stefi during the onset of his stuttering for a bit. He’s so strong with it yet there are days that are just long and he gets tired with it, as I’m sure you know. He has expressed that he wants to meet other kids who stutter and I think it’s so beneficial for so many reasons. I’m going to look into the links you provided. Thank you so much!

Re: Stuttering support group
I'm so glad to hear that there are support groups for this. When I was a teen, there wasn't such a thing. My stuttering isn't severe, but it's definitely there, and it's obvious to me. I've spent most of my life figuring out ways around it, but not everyone is able to do that.
Knowing that other people have the same or similar issues is helpful. You realize that you're not the only one. And hopefully people can share things that have helped them.
I would imagine there would be something for kids, since that's a very vulnerable age, even without a speech impediment.
