This is the messy-tailed, slightly sloppy, practice orca. I think with a couple of tweaks - it will work out okay next week - again, if you squint.
That's awesome!

When I did a 3d Thomas the train cake for my son, someone told me as long as your goal can be identified without needing to ask what it is, you did a good job.
Well done.

It looks great! Where did you get the black buttercream?
I actually used store bough dark chocolate frosting and then ordered black gel dye from amazon. I read somewhere that adding black dye to white frosting can make it bitter, so you can add less when using dark chocolate frosting - it worked well and wasn't bitter! Although, if I made it from scratch, it would have been thicker and less runny looking.
Wow, what a great tip! I'm impressed with how black it came out!

I definitely think the gel dyes are much more potent than the liquid ones.

Cake Making Help - Orca
Wow! The colors and shape are great! If you want to keep the tray from getting too messy, put some parchment paper strips in a square around the orca and under the fins head, etc. not all the way under it. When you're done frosting, gently slip the papers out. You can put a light coating of white frosting on the tray and sprinkle blue crystal sugar onto the tray for "water"
