Calling all flying to FL experts!

We are flying this summer (August) to Orlando. It’s a short trip so we don’t really have flexibility in which flights (i.e one of two earliest down, one of two latest up). DH insists on Jet Blue. They just lowered the fare with one checked bag from $204 to $179. Do I hold out to see if either leg goes down to $159 or $114 or do it now?

ETA 179 each way, includes tax and fees

Me, I'd book now. I get way too nervous playing price roulette when it comes to flights.
But that's just me.
Stress and aggravation is money to me. So I'd rather just pay more and not have to think about it or worry about it selling out or going higher.
This could also be why my spending is out of control.

Calling all flying to FL experts!

I held out for our May trip for months. Pulled the trigger 4 months out when they dropped enough to buy. I checked multiple times a day and they really go up and down a lot.

3 months before our trip our fare on JetBlue dropped a lot! I could have saved over $100 a ticket. So this time around I am waiting.

It’s $179 each leg. Plus taxes and fees. I don’t think that’s great.

Yes, thanks. $179 each leg but it includes taxes and fees. Since posting this, I’m thinking I may book the return trip now because that’s a Sunday, and scrolling through earlier months, it seems that Sunday nights go up in price. It’s the going down trip (a Wednesday) specifically I’m wondering if I should wait.

My dates are Saturday to Sunday. Sunday has gone up and down too. But Sunday is usually higher priced. But it does go down. I also always buy the fare that includes luggage. The day of my return they have flights in that category for $141.

If you don’t have flexibility, book it. It’s not a bad price at all. It’s jetblue. You may be able to find a better fare on a worse airline, but I think $180 isn’t bad. I would actually just pack light and save the $ there.

Thanks - I have a feeling we will be flying back with some souvenirs, lol. I’m trying to see how I can book two seats with the bags and 2 without (4 people, 2 bags) online but I don’t know if I can do that altogether under one reservation.

They don’t make that easy. I’d look into 2 reservations vs just pay for the bag. We do that when one of us flies with points. But in summer, clothes are so small and thin! I’ve never used more than a carry on per person domestically. We do shop for toys, shampoo & conditioner and things like that. If going with kids (I’m assuming), have them tote a carryon as well. Mine are responsible for their own (starting at 3) and a backpack. It’s cute and totally easy. They enjoy it (they have themed luggage) and it lets me take my stuff with room to spare.

We're taking JetBlue to FL next month, to Sarasota - not even Orlando - and we're paying a fortune. But, we booked in the fall and the prices never fell.

I'd personally book it rather than waiting to see if it drops $10 or $20. Not worth it because you could wind up paying $400 more!

You can book them all without the bags and add the bags to your reservation after or just pay at the airport. I haven't found that booking with a bag is any cheaper than paying for it after ($35/bag now, I believe).

Re: Calling all flying to FL experts!

I would wait. When you book so far out prices tend to be higher. Also, tues/wed flights tend to be cheaper and sunday more expensive.

Are you renting a car? If you are, I'd look into other airports also. MCO is so busy.

IMO $179 is ok for a sunday return but not a Wednesday departure. I'd maybe book the return but not departure. We always fly Jet Blue and sometimes bc we only need one suitcase, we split the reservation. No issues.

I'd just book without pre-paying for the bag. You aren't really saving much money with the pre-pay price. Gives you more flexibility.

Re: Calling all flying to FL experts!

Based on my history with JetBlue and their flight prices I would book now. It’s always best to book with them when the first roll out the dates since you can get flights for as low as $99 each way. Since that’s no longer an option I would just book with them now at $179 actually less because I wouldn’t prepay the blue flex fare for the checked bag. I would just pay the luggage fees at the time of check in. Prices are usually higher flying back to NY on a Sunday.

I looked the morning mine were released too and they were so high. I waited it out. Now you can get my days as cheap $87 (Saturday without luggage) and $114 (Sunday return without luggaage).

ETA. The budget airlines, like JetBlue, are known for starting off higher when they first release.

We are going to Florida in a few weeks. I set up google alerts. We are paying a little more than $200 roundtrip.
