Steinmart
Anyone been to Steinmart? I know their is only one on Long Island- in Commack- and I used to see their ads on TV and think it was a cheesy store, but I went in there yesterday and was very impressed.
They had a TON of really nice dresses. I saw a Ralph Lauren dress that I got in Macy's or Bloomingdale's last year for like $120 for $60. The exact dress. I am guessing they have stuff from last year as I bought this dress over a year ago. Really really nice, quality stuff.
Super organized- not like Marshalls or TJ Max. A different rack for each style like a real department store, not a rack full of stuff that you have to pick through by size.
They also have housewares and home decor- again super neat and organized.
I saw the exact pair of pumps that I bought in DSW earlier this year for cheaper there too.
They had a ton of purses and bags- and even had high end designer bags like Gucci and LV. I didn't look at the prices on those and am not sure how much they could or would be discounted but I was surprised to see them there all locked up and in cases.
I was just really surprised by the selection and the prices are great.

I've been to the one in Commack a few times. I find it's very hit or miss - can walk in and find find a whole bunch of things or nothing. It's not bad, but can't say I love it

Re: Steinmart
Yes, I can imagine it to be hit or miss like a Marshalls or TJ Maxx, but what impressed me was the set up. Everything was so clean, neat and organized. I can't shop in Marshalls because I get anxiety from the disaster set ups. Having to go to say a rack of jeans and just pick through the mess of size 6's let's say- that just turns me off.
This was set up like a regular store. No picking through a mess. One rack for each style and the sizes all organized in order.
I was impressed with the selection of spring dresses yesterday too

I used to go to this one all the time. They closed years ago. My bff and I were obsessed and even now we always point out when we’re wearing something we bought from there and say “Steinmart, R.I.P.” I’m pretty sure we bought out their inventory the day they closed and then went to Shiro’s to drink.
I haven’t been to the one in Commack but it sounds like I need to go.

I found the clothes and shoes there to be super old ladyish. Like really farty. Like snowbird in Orlando. There were some decent-ish things, but not much. Maybe the selection has gotten better.

That's what I used to think too, but then I went there and they had a lot of adorable dresses for spring and summer. And great purses. The shoes were hit or miss, but they did have the same stilettos I bought in DSW.
Some of the stuff I wouldn't touch but the Ralph Lauren dresses were exactly what I wear to work and exactly what i paid double for at Bloomingdale's and Macys

Yes, I definitely remember them having clothes for the 80 and over set but I used to shop there in my early 20’s and found tons of age appropriate stuff that I used to wear to parties and bars. I recently pulled out a VERY low cut Michael kors dress I had gotten there and decided I’m too old now to wear it. I’m 34.
I might have to make the drive out to Commack this weekend, now I’m very curious!

I miss going to the one in Atlas Park in Queens. I was upset when it closed. I only ever bought stuff from the home section though. I didn't know there was one in Commack.

Re: Steinmart
So now I have DH addicted. I went back with him this weekend because the dress I got was too big and I needed a smaller size. So he came with me and wandered over to the men's department.
Their selection of button down shirts was incredible. Michael Kors shirts for $35 -$40, really nice with the different prints on the cuffs and collar and good quality.
They had Robert Graham shirts- which sell at Saks for $200 and $300 for $99.
Great selection of jeans for men too.
I have to say, I saw no trace of 85 and older snowbird clothes in the men's department. It was super nice.
Now he wants to go back. bang:
I found Jessica Simpson curvy skinny jeans when I waiting on line to do my return but the line was long and I didn't want to get off to try them on. I need to go back myself actually now.

I live near the one in Commack and have tried a few times....every time I go though, I feel like their demographic is my grandmother. Everything is so farty.

Yeah that's not what I found. Especially in the men's department. My DH was like a kid in a candy store.
But I also found 2-3 of the EXACT dresses I have in my closet now- from Nordstrom's and Bloomie's- on the racks there for at least 40 % less than i paid. And trust me, I don't wear farty.
It might be hit or miss- maybe i just hit it on 2-3 good days. I don't go often so who knows. I find the area in the front is where all the nice stuff is- like they display that up front. I never ventured very deep in beyond those dresses and some nice bags.

I've never been to the store but I did buy my son's nursery bedding from their website for significantly cheaper than Buy Buy Baby.
