Fabuwood vs. Ikea Grimslov cabinets
options on either?
IKEA: We happen to love IKEA, but our concern w/ the kitchen is that if we ever remodeled again, or a future buyer does, you're kind of limited to IKEA again next time around because of the whole rail system. What we love about it is that for everything we plan on doing, we will spend about 6k on the cabinets, which includes the soft close doors, the cabinet lighting, drawer pulls, sink, faucet, and lots of pull out drawers. They also have a 25 year warranty. Other concern is that they're not wood.
Fabuwood: They're wood and they look nice (galaxy frost), and price-wise they are pretty comparable to IKEA, if not less actually. The contractor said the dimensions of our kitchen work well with the fabuwood cabinets as well. However, the lighting, drawers, etc. don't come standard. Warranty is only 5 years.
So I'm torn. We have good contractors for either route we choose, but I just want to hear from anyone who cabinets from either IKEA or fabuwood. My biggest worry is that the IKEA stuff won't hold up

In all my research, I read really good things about Ikea cabinets, although don't have any personal knowledge.

Re: Fabuwood vs. Ikea Grimslov cabinets
I have had Ikea cabinets for over 5 years. They have held up very well.
I have the Faktum, not the Metod. They changed them over about 4 years.
I am really happy with them and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another kitchen from them.
You can save $$$$ buy building them yourself and it’s less work.
My kitchen cost about 13,000 and that included cabinets, appliances (not Ikea, Siemens), and getting everything set up. I bought the counters from another place, but I included that in the price.

Did that price include demo, tile for backsplash, assembly, installation, any electric/plumbing work, etc?
We need to change our kitchen lighting to high hats, need to add 2-3 more outlets, and we are doing a cutout in the wall between the dining room and kitchen

That price including electrical (I had two outlets and a paint job done) and plumbing. I had a private contractor for that part. My kitchen was done in two days. The back splash came along with my apartment.
You have to keep in mind that I am in Germany and apartments here don’t usually come with kitchens.
Consult Ikea for installing your kitchen. I didn’t use them to install.
You can build your own kitchen at Ikea on the computer and they will help with the rest.
I am very happy with my Ikea kitchen.

we have a contractor who works w/ ikea and he's coming on tues night to give us his labor quote to compare with our quote using the fabuwood cabinets w/ the other contractor.
the ikea guy did my family friend's kitchen and it came out beautifully. He told them that if anyone wanted to do a kitchen in the future to call him directly and he will charge 50% than it would be if we book him through ikea.. I guess ikea charges a lot more since they have to take some sort of commission.. They said their cabinets were around 6k, and the total kitchen cost was 17k including the demo and installation. They kept their appliances, flooring and didn't move any plumbing around. We are basically doing the same thing, and cabinets will come out to the around the same price. Figuring we will be in the same ballpark price point.
I'll update on here on Tuesday when i get the price!

Fabuwood vs. Ikea Grimslov cabinets
I recently bought some Ikea kitchen cabinets to install in my home office. They were easy to assemble and the directions were fine. The only thing that I was not prepared for was the fact that the drawer sides were not straight. They slope in slightly. In reality not a huge amount, but enought for it to bother me. Just something to consider. And I am not even sure if it is all their drawers or I just somehow managed to pick this particular style without knowing it (I ordered online).

Fabuwood vs. Ikea Grimslov cabinets
update: about 3800k for labor from the contractor I know. He did my friend's ikea kitchen
Price was for a rectangular cutout in the wall between the DR and kitchen with molding around the opening (going to be putting a countertop over the ledge and use it for bar seating), ripping out old lights, installing high hats in their place, installing pendant lights over the DR/kitchen wall opening, installing 3 new outlets, demo and disposal of everything, assembly of the cabinets, installation of the cabinets, under cabinet lighting, and tiling the backsplash.
We supply the lights, molding for the opening, and tile and grout for the backsplash. Not a bad price at all!

The Ikea cabinets we installed in the downstairs apartment that DH and I lived in; in my parents house are still good as new.
This was 15 years ago.

Re: Fabuwood vs. Ikea Grimslov cabinets
That’s a very good price.
Do you or your contractor assemble the cabinets?
I did the same thing by buying my own lights etc., and the backsplash was included in the apartment. I also assembled my cabinets.
I paid about $2000 for installation.

he's installing the cabinets :) We offered to do it to cut the price even more, but he's opposed to it because he said too often people don't assemble right and he wastes time re-doing it.. understandable.
He also has a quartz guy who's going to come by and give a price- I may go around IKEA for that as well
