question about permanent residency
without going into too much detail, someone we know claims residency in another state on their taxes but they don't reside there 6 months out of the year (more like 3.5 months). Can they get in trouble for this, because they're boasting about their tax breaks but they're not exactly following the "rules"
Also, a friend of a friend has been wanting to call and rat them out but doesn't know if it would be anonymous. Anyone know? I totally get why this person wants to rat them out, but I can't really explain here for obvious reasons!

I have no idea if they can get caught organically -- but my advice to the friend of a friend would be to MYOB.

same! bad karma but again: i can't really get into the explanation of why they want to. I get it to some degree, but I don't think I would do it.

I agree they need to mind their business. Unless it directly affects them, they should no say or do anything. And if this person knows that they are hated that much that someone would rat them out, they would know who did it, right?

hah! so true- they prob would know. People who are cheating the system probably shouldn't be outwardly telling everyone either though lol

They can get in trouble if they have had a residency audit. Your friend should MYOB
