Goody box for senior in a rehab.
My mother in law was recently hospitalized. She has type 1 diabetes and is having problems with her feet and will likely need amputation soon. She was released into a rehab for now because she can't walk. I'm looking to send her a box of things she can do to keep busy. I don't have a ton to spend, so looking for inexpensive things (think dollar store crossword books) that I can make into a goody box.

Magazines that she is into
Maybe some books if she likes to read and you know what genres she likes.
Does she have a kindle? If so, amazon gift card to buy books
Like you said- puzzle books- crossword, word search, jumble, sudoku etc
Make sure to include some pens
Adult coloring book and colored pencils
Sugar free gum and mints and maybe those Listerine disolveable tabs- when i have been in the hosptial those are a life saver.
Lip balm

Sorry that your MIL has to go thru this.
I was so exhausted during my 11 day stint in rehab from all the PT / OT and then the pain meds that I really didn't feel the need to be occupied.
I did have my tablet to read (never watched the movies I downloaded to it), magazines to flip thru. I was too tired to read more than a few pages at a time.
I brought a manicure kit to keep my nails tidy.
Maybe a small cross stitch or embroidery kit, of it MIL knits a small project.
If allowed, bring an extension cord for her phone charger and other electronic devices. I wasn't allowed one and it was a pain to have to reach so far for the cord. DH had to do it for me.
Lip balm, hand cream most definitely.
DH brought me a huge bottle of water every day, I refused to drink out of the pink plastic pitcher.
My sister brought me snacks, but I rarely ate them, the pain meds killed my appetite, even for CHOCOLATE.
Some places have a hairdresser that comes in and for a fee, washes and styles patients.
That's about all I can think of.
