A HIPPA related wwyd?
I have an upcoming dr. Appt. And they mailed me paperwork to fill out. The last page is actually another patient's bloodwork results. I assume it came out of the printer right after mine and accidentally got stapled to mine. Should I bring the paper when I go and hand it in to them, even though it might get someone in trouble? My tendency is to just throw it away. But what if something in the results requires further medical follow up? I'm not sure if the doctor will still see the results if I dont bring them back. I dont understand the results because it's a code. I dont want to get anyone in trouble, but I also dont want the patient to possibly miss out on a necessary follow up.

I would call the office now and let them know. It's a very serious breach and more importantly, as you pointed out, someone might not be getting test results or information that they need

this.
it might be a printer where a lot of different people grab items from, so no one will know who did it. i don't think someone will get in trouble. it's more important for that customer's file to be complete and accurate.

If they can trace who messed up that person would likely be fired.
I would return the results when you go there and give them to the receptionist.
This is why doctors need to get their act together and stop dealing with paper altogether.
ETA most blood results are more than 1 page so they would have noticed a page was missing and re-print so I wouldn’t worry about the results not being reviewed.

I would call them up and let them know. That is a big oops. They should be looking over this before it gets mailed out.
