CBD oil for dogs-repost from pets page

My dog is 10 months old and very sweet and loving. The problem is he becomes overly excited when anybody comes to the house. We have tried trainers and techniques they have taught us ("place", leash on, etc) but he's wayyyy too hyper and is strong and hasn't been too successful. He jumps like crazy and basically just "attacks" but in a loving, can't stop jumping, kissing kind of way and won't let up for like 20 minutes. That is for just one person. We are having like 15 people over for Thanksgiving and I cant stop stressing about this. Once he settles down he's ok but still can hype up immediately over ANYTHING lol. I want to try using CBD oil just to settle him down and relax more.

I've researched them and found a ton but wanted to know if anyone has had success on a particular oil they have bought because there are so many to choose from. Thanks!!

We have had our share of trainers for our 75 pound goofball. Chat Icon

The one trick we do that we were taught; which is usually for a Holiday when there is a lot of people, is DH puts him on a leash and holds him. I have people come in and I tell them to not pay any attention to him; to ignore him and not even to kiss DH. It is all part of the training process.

Once he is done going crazy, and yawning a million times to let out his anxiety, he eventually calms down, and DH will let him go and "sniff" our guests; but its more in a calming manner. Then eventually leash comes off and he is good to go.

Have you tried this?

I didn’t notice any difference with my dogs anxiety using cbd. I did however notice a change using melatonin. I’d ask you vet about proper dosage and try that.

What kind of dog is it? That’s make a difference in how long they stay a “puppy”.

My advice (along with what you’ve learned from training) is tire him out before you get company. Whether it’s a walk or run after the ball in yard for 15 min or so. A tired dog is a good/calm dog.

ETA: I agree with the PP. the leash is your best friend when training. My rottie lived on her leash or in her crate for the first year of her life. It was the only way to ensure good behavior = always knowing where she was and ability to immediately correct her. She’s now the best dog I’ve ever had

I use CBD treats for my dog for arthritis. His vet recommends this brand:

While they definitely have helped with arthritis I do not think they have helped with anxiety. I agree with the advice of pp. Additionally, if you crate train your dog you can train them to go to their crate when they hear the door bell. The leash is an excellent tool as well. When we have many people over I lock my dog in my bedroom. He generally sleeps there during the day. I think sometimes removing the dog from the situation is the best way to manage a behavior.

Thank u everyone..yes we have used the leash and it works while he’s on it but once we take it off he’s too excited and starts jumping on everyone/kissing them etc. We think he’s a lab/pit mix but we don’t know for sure bc we rescued him. I ordered the calming Cbd from Lazarus Naturals. So far day two and no changes lol. Oh well!

Awww
Labs are known to be puppies for like 3 years - so it takes a lot of time and repetition.
Give the cbd some more time (though it didn’t work for my dog) Try the tiring him out before company , then the leash. If he starts acting up, back on the leash. Not in a punishment way but in a training way. He’ll get it ... eventually. Also check on the melatonin dosage. It can’t hurt to try.
