Immediate Family only for Holidays
Does anyone only celebrate with their immediate family. I mean no grandparents are siblings, just spouse and kids? If so what do you do for the day?

Immediate Family only for Holidays
I would LOVE to do this. We did it growing up and I miss it so much.
We woke up, opened gifts, had a big breakfast...then spent the day in pj’s playing with our toys and watching Xmas movies with a fire roaring all day. Then for dinner we just had apps. It was so low key and relaxing and fun!!

we've arranged our holiday plans years ago so that we do christmas morning with my in laws and christmas night with my side. Which means every year we get christmas eve to ourselves and it's AMAZING.
We hangout in our pajamas pretty much all day, make cookies for santa and just relax. We usually go out to dinner early, around 330 (most italian restaurants are open christmas eve), then we come home, have cookies and hot chocolate, watch a christmas movie, read the polar express and put DD to bed. After she goes to bed we relax in our pajamas and eat all the cookies :)

Immediate Family only for Holidays
As much as I think it would be a nice relaxing day I do enjoy spending the day with my family. Everyone has so much going on that holidays are the few times a year we spend together (both my side and my husbands). I want my children to have memories of their grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins. If it’s just us, to me that could be any weekend.

Re: Immediate Family only for Holidays
We moved this year so that is EXACTLY what we'll be doing and I am really looking forward to it. It'll just be my DH, me and the kids. We're going to open our gifts, relax, watch Xmas movies, enjoy a nice breakfast and dinner at home and spend the day in cozy pj's.
Xmas Eve has always been a big thing with well over 30 adults and kids and I usually host Xmas Day which is exhausting. I am really excited to just kick back this Xmas and chill.

Immediate Family only for Holidays
We’ve done it for Christmas Eve a few times and it’s actually really nice. We went to a movie in the afternoon, then I cooked dinner and we just hung out and relaxed.

Re: Immediate Family only for Holidays
We don't celebrate Christmas eve nor does any of our family so we've always spent that day alone. But we pretty much just use it to do last minute stuff. Wrap gifts, bake cookies, run around for last minute stuff. But again, I don't consider it a holiday so it's just another day for us. Most of the time I work that day anyway unless it falls on a weekend or my company is closed

Re: Immediate Family only for Holidays
We do it for New Years Eve. We go out to an early dinner, then come home and put our PJ's on, and watch Rocking Eve.

Immediate Family only for Holidays
We are doing this for Christmas this year. We plan to open gifts, have a big breakfast, and play with toys all day.
We will be seeing my ILs 12/20-12/22 and my side 12/26-12/28. We live about 3-3.5 hours from both sides so splitting it up made the most sense. We have traveled every single Christmas since 2007 so it will be nice to actually relax and enjoy it.

Re: Immediate Family only for Holidays
I did this growing up! Christmas Eve we would spend with extended family but on Christmas Day, we would just hang out at home, spend most of the day in our pajamas and play with our new toys. I loved this and didn't mind that it was just us.... then when I met DH he thought I was crazy for not doing anything on Christmas Day, so that's when we started going to MIL's. Pretty soon I am going to have to take over hosting Christmas Day because MIL hinted to me that she can no longer do it for much longer due to her job situation changing (great! lol).

Immediate Family only for Holidays
Immed family only here for Christmas Day. We open gifts in the am and then it is just a regular day for us. We have no family, so it is literally just the 3 of us all the time. It gets old.

It’s going to be just the 3 of us this year. We’re going to the movies and then I’ll make a nice dinner.

Re: Immediate Family only for Holidays
when DS was little and i wasn't near family, this is what we would do.
christmas eve: we would bake cookies for santa, i would make a small traditional meal, we'd watch christmas movies. once DS went to bed, i'd bring out all of santa's gifts to him and make it look like santa ate all the cookies.
christmas day: i would let DS sleep in. we'd open gifts, hang out in pjs all day, have a big breakfast, and watch more christmas movies.
those were the best christmases. i miss DS being little.

Every other year we don't have either of our kids on Christmas Eve and my SO and I go out to sushi by ourselves. It's great

I do agree with this, but we will be doing Christmas day solo this year and celebrating with my ILs right before Christmas and my side right after Christmas. Whether we spend the actual day together doesn't really matter.
When we do visit family, we wind up being at their house for 2-4 days so my DS gets a lot of time with his extended family. For Thanksgiving, all the kids were screaming at each other by the end of our trip - fun times!
