Looking for great places in US
Hey ladies,
Looking to take my husband away most likely in July to surprise him with an early birthday present. I don’t want to go away for more than five days because we have two boys that are young and it will be the first time leaving them.
We were thinking about driving somewhere close to NY so In case of an emergency if we could get back in our car and turn around. However my husband really likes to fly and hasn’t flown on a plane in a while so I was thinking about taking him on a plane but then I know it gets costly to rent a car and get a hotel somewhere so I’m thinking driving to a state is less expensive and easier.
Which states do you recommend and any hotels/ cabins that could can recommend would be great. My husband loves to see cities but also loves mountains and lakes so that’s why I was open to renting cabins.
TIA

If he likes cities, you don't even need to rent a car once you get there. You can do Chicago, Nashville, New Orleans etc and just Uber around the city All were really cool places to visit.

True! Thank you for your post. Can you name any hotels specifically that you would recommend?

I was there for work but in Chicago the conference was at the Langham and it was beautiful. I don't eve recall the one in New Orleans because it was long ago but there are so many so check Trip Advisor- and I'm sure people on here have recommendations. In Nashville- our conference was at the Renaissance Nashville and it was also very nice and centrally located.

Chicago you also get the lake that is right there! It's a great city - definitely a favorite. The Hyatt Regency and The Drake ($$) are great hotels
New Orleans is fun - I would recommend The Roosevelt

Austin and Montreal are supposed to be cool.
You could do Niagara Falls and Toronto.

We had stayed in Ogonquit but it was a beach town. There’s plenty of other towns in Maine with mountains and hiking though.

Don't go to Austin in July.
I love New Orleans, but wouldn't recommend in the summer either.
Maine is great, Nantucket, Newport - I love New England in the summer.

Okay thanks ladies,
So I think it's down to Maine ( Bar harbor and Acadia national park specifically) or Chicago! Just need recommendations of cabins or hotel. Will keep researching too! Thanks so much ladies!

I stayed at a beautiful hotel in York, Maine. It's on the coast though and more of a beach vacation. It was called the Viewpoint.
