Let's see what happens. Let's see if I get reported.

And I can assure you my HR would not laugh at me- they aren't letting people work from home yet.

If anything they'd laugh at the person reporting me for a single cough.

I'm confused. I work from home part time, but if I had to go into the office regularly and they *made* me work from home for coughing I'd be thrilled! Do people really want to go into the office? I mean, unless working from home prevented me from getting my job done I would take that kind of discrimination any day!
yeah I'm reading this scratching my head WTH would complain to HR that they were made to work from home for two weeks?????? I would be thrilled too! In fact, I will try coughing all day tomorrow....oh wait, we have no WFH capability. But seriously, who in their right mind wants to actually "go" to work??????

Wait- i didn't say she coughed once and they made her work from home. She was coughing all day- she has either a cough/cold, allergies or a deadly virus-- not sure yet LOL. (too soon to joke about it? It's likely allergies!!) But she was actively coughing in the office and they asked her to work from home. She regularly works from home anyway, so it wasn't a big deal. She said today, they asked more people to work from home too...not sure if they were sick. It's a HUGE corporation- almost everyone can WFH.

Wait- i didn't say she coughed once and they made her work from home. She was coughing all day- she has either a cough/cold, allergies or a deadly virus-- not sure yet LOL. (too soon to joke about it? It's likely allergies!!) But she was actively coughing in the office and they asked her to work from home. She regularly works from home anyway, so it wasn't a big deal. She said today, they asked more people to work from home too...not sure if they were sick. It's a HUGE corporation- almost everyone can WFH.
I see nothing wrong in that case to make her WFH given the current climate.
This is getting serious and I’m getting sick of people saying it’s nothing or it’s media hype. It isn’t anymore.
I’m not worried about getting sick, but I’m worried about those in other groups (the elderly) getting sick. I’m worried about the fact that health infrastructure cannot deal with this.
There is a lot they don’t know about this disease, but they do know that containment helps.

Our office has stopped all international travel and domestic travel will be done on a case by case basis.
We are not mandated to telework at the moment, but we have the capabilities and are ready to do so if necessary. I work from home one day a week and that is enough for me, but if its the right decision for public health I won't mind.

When we had our office move we were home around 3 weeks. My boss would have us meet him at random bars and restaurants in the area that had wifi and we'd all work there for a few hours some days.(and have lunch and drinks). It was heaven to get out of the house.

DH's company is starting to put everything in place to have people WFH. They already have two people in his department required to work remotely as they just traveled internationally.

Yes but this isn’t the same. If you are working from home you aren’t going out socializing and looking for things to fill up your day. You are actually working and usually have to be home. This can be very daunting. I know people who wfh full time and will physically get dressed, walk out the door and around the block and enter their house from a different entrance.

Yes, I know you actually have to work when you work from home. Nell stated how she likes to go to work because she has to be with people, get dressed and go out for after work drinks and dinner. That is what I was responding too. Luckily I have friends in real life that I can go out with after work hours....that is what I meant by not depending on work for my socialization. I also would never not get dressed and made up each day. To each their own. I'm glad there are two people in the world who can't wait to go to work! I'm just not one of them.

I have a life and friends outside work as well. 
Some people actually enjoy the teamwork and commradire of being in an office. Doesn't mean we have no outside life.

I went into work on Monday and on my commute home my boss sent a text stating that we are to WFH for the next few weeks. The next day the company sent out a list of offices where telecommuting was either strongly recommended or required. Most of the offices on the East Coast are required to WFH and so was our office in San Fran.

As of today my office decided that tomorrow we begin to WFH. We never close for anything (even holidays!), so this was pretty shocking, but appreciated.
Two people came into work sick today. One had a fever until Tuesday. He was fever free Wednesday, but came in coughing still today and was asked to leave and WFH. Another girl just returned from the DR and has a bad cold. We sent her right back out the door. Immediately after this, we called a leadership meeting and decided that WFH was the best way for us. If one of us went down, we would all go down. This also protects the best interest of the company.

When I'm in the office, I rarely socialize except at lunch, so I'm not missing much by not going into the office.
But, that's just me and my situation. I understand the range of jobs, the range of office interaction, etc.
