You guys do realize that by OP having her cleaning lady come, she's providing income for said cleaning lady, right?

I honestly don't see the issue with one person coming to someone's house when they aren't home, even under these circumstances.

sure, she is providing income.

I wouldn’t honestly. Yes she is “cleaning” but she is also touching literally every surface of your house and you have no idea whose houses she had been to before. I’m a single FWM (now from home) with a severely disabled kid (and two others) and I canceled my cleaning woman and all of my child’s home health care providers for minimum two weeks. Will probably be longer :(. I alternate between being terrified of this virus, and wondering if the cure is worse than the disease....

The moral superiority and high horses about this are out of control.
Apparently her cleaning lady is typhoid Mary.
Get the pitch forks and burn OP at the stake for even daring to ask such a horrible question!!!
When the economy collapses and we enter another Great depression and people are starving in the street perhaps a virus won't seem so bad.

Nell if you're referring to me as moral superiority and high horse I find that offensive. I'm not burring OP to the stake. I stated my opinion something you and many do on this sit everyday.

Many people are in tight spot financially. Of course I feel bad for the cleaning lady but I'm not sure its worth the risk right now when NY currently has the highest case load of this virus. As I once states before, gloves mean nothing, Gloves get dirty.

We canceled last week. I plan to cancel next week as well but want to send her a check for partial lost wages. As of right now both me and DH are still employed (although bonuses will be impacted for sure) but I hope to spread this economic burden rather than force her to bear it alone. I plan to send her 50% for right now. I’m not sure how long this will go on but I hope we can pull together.

no I can clean my own home. I'm amazed people would let a cleaning lady come when we are told social distancing.

kid are home
people are now working from home
going to the store should only be when needed
we are no supposed to visiting

but some would still let their cleaning person come into their home not knowing who she has come in contact with...... OYE

that way of thinking is not thinking outside oneself

She's CLEANING. Wearing gloves. Using bleach! And other sanitizers. With nobody here. I thought it was a legit question. I have been working full time and half ass "homeschooling" on top of cooking, laundry and all the other maid services I provide so I don't feel like cleaning too. No need to be all preachy. I have not left my house in days so save it for someone else who is a true rule violator.

I’m not getting preachy and I’m not one to get crazy over things but a cleaning person is not sanitizing your entire house. They can have it and not show signs and sneeze and a droplet sits on a surface.

You just really don’t know and letting people in your house that have been all over other house is just not needed right now.

I get working, homeschooling and running the house but I’d rather have a messy house.

I agree with this. It is spreading so fast in NY. I have had one visitor in my house (SO) in the past 3 weeks and I have barely left my house in the past two. Been in completely for almost a week. I have disinfected everything, and I do not want any new germs in. I haven’t been able to get cleaning supplies, so I need to save what I have.

They really don’t know this virus at all. I heard they aren’t sure if there are two strains out there or not. So yes, I don’t want anyone in my house.

I feel like there are bigger fish to fry than cleaning ladies, as per ABC:

Nassau County gathering complaints
"If you hear of places being open, bars, weddings you can email [email protected]. There have been 200 complaints since Monday. Fines are for up to $5,000. The county has heard about weddings in backyards, bars opening up back doors, and they are investigating."

Me Preachy?? I'm not a preachy person in life or on this site. You asked a question and I replied.

Part of my reply was to all the people who said yes to letting a cleaning person in not just you. Sorry I hit a sensitive nerve.

If you feel its important to let someone in to clean that's your choice. I think its absurd with everything WE hear all day long. All day the GOV of NY is telling all of us how to stop the spread of a virus. I'm not even going to the bank because its not truly necessary or urgent and can wait. I for one am trying to limit who I'm around and who is around my family.

And this is why this Shelter is Place, Social Isolation or whatever you want to call it won't work. People STILL don't get it. We need the Military on every block not letting people do this stupid sh@t.

Yup exactly.
Oh but my house needs cleaning.
I just needed an at home haircut or manicure.
I just had a couple of friends over.
I just needed to wander around Target.

NY’s numbers are terrifying and growing like crazy. We are going to lose parents and grandparents. But God forbid we think about the greater good of society for 2 weeks. It’s embarrassing.

No I wouldn't do it.
You don't know where the person has been, who they've been in contact with etc.
The whole point of this is limiting contact points. This puts another person intimately in your circle and all over your stuff, and they've been all over other peoples stuff too, never mind their family's contact points too.

From the cleaning person's POV, there is a greater risk on them catching it .

Like I said above, save your soapbox preaching for the people wandering Target, pondering paint colors at Home Depot, getting primped and having social gatherings. That's not me.

I asked if the CLEANING lady could come. And again, in case you missed it, we are social distancing, not quarantined. Not being home while she is here falls into that parameter. I'm not a princess and I'm not stupid. It was a legit question. I'm not even sure she wants to come but I was just thinking about it ahead of time.

But I appreciate everyone's opinions so thank you.

I have an opportunity to not be home for a week (going to my bf's house). If I had cleaners come on Monday do you think it'll be ok by Friday? I'm sure they're being super careful since everyone is so concerned, but my house will need cleaning in a few weeks and I work full time so it's not as easy for me to do it (and frankly, I hate cleaning so it's not likely to be done by me).

No. I wouldn’t.

I am working from home, and homeschooling as well. And my DH has to work so often days I’m doing it all alone. I wouldn’t want someone to be in my house unless they have to.

DH or I are also thoroughly cleaning now so there wouldn’t be much for them to do - except maybe the shower since it’s so annoying.

It's fine. The virus can't live that long on surfaces or in the air.

Obviously, I see no problem with that but my cleaning lady actually cancelled on me. She told me she is not working indefinitely. Just FYI
