lets talk masks since its seems to be a hot topic on every other topic being posted.

i am ok for NOW to wear masks but I dont want to do this for month and months on end!!

I dont want to live my life like China where people wear masks on a normal bases if I did I would move there!!! (yes I know I am being dramatic with this statement)

I get why we have to do it now but when will it be ok not too!! I want to know the day when we say ok, we all dont have to wear masks.

Is there a CDC, WHO or federal government guideline on this (Cant remember if they issued an order/recommendation and if they did was there a set expiration on it)

Also i do not think elementary students should be require to wear them to return to school (if they return to school and it is a requirement yes i know it has not been said and no one know if and when they will) i think it will do more harm then good!!

Re: Lets talk masks

I HAAAAAAATTTTTEEEEEE masks. Hate them! As I have mentioned before, I am SEVERELY claustrophobic so I really struggle to keep them on. I am constantly readjusting mine and pulling it from my face to breathe. My heart races and I begin to have panic attacks because I feel restricted and like I can't get enough oxygen. They are torture, even worse if the store is warm. Ugh.

That being said, I will wear it FOR NOW in retail places but that's it. If I am outdoors walking, hiking or in parks, I don't wear a mask. I NEED to breathe the fresh air. I will do this for a SHORT time but I have NO intention of going through life like this permanently. I don't want to live like that.

I too don't think masks should be a requirement to go back to school, ultimately I think they will cause more issues in the classroom then mitigate any virus risk.

I 100% touch my face more with a mask on.
So so much for not touching your face- that went out the window with the masks.
I found myself finding a quiet, empty aisle in target last week so I could pull it away from my face and breath for a few seconds. Because I was on the brink of having to abandon my cart and run outside to breath- my anxiety was at a 10!
I can't imagine a long flight or train ride commute.
I'd be hiding on the ground, pretending to be searching my bag for something, so I could pull it away and take breaths!
I only wear it when absolutely necessary like to go inside a store.

I hate masks. I have minor asthma, and it's difficult for me to breathe with a mask on...so I imagine it is quite difficult for people with worse asthma and other conditions.

I wear one and will wear one when I'm supposed to, but as soon as we are no longer required to do so, I'm not. It's a terrible feeling physically, and it's emotionally jarring.

Re: Lets talk masks

I ended up buying a linen one from Etsy, and it is really lovely. It is thick but not suffocating, and made really well. The ear straps are covered in silk.the maker is called thewindingcloth, but she is listed as sold out for now. I found her from a Vogue face mask article as the best mask designers, and although expensive, the quality is outstanding.

Wearing a mask doesn't bother me honestly. If it helps a bit, I'll wear it for as long as I need to. I don't know when its ok to NOT wear a mask though.

I don't wear one outside when I am running, or walking with my kids. If I lived in a crowded neighborhood I might.

I don't see how kids can be expected to wear masks all day long though. Its not realistic - no way will kids tolerate it for 8 hours.

Re: Lets talk masks

I hate them, they suck, nothing I like about them. I don’t care how cute or bedazzled people try to make them I can’t see myself getting used to them. I feel like I’m going to die. I don’t go shopping anymore because they suck, I miss target :(

I will wear it, my son had to wear it to walk the dogs. We wear it in the elevators when we are around people and the lobby. As soon as I get to the garage, I pull that sucker down .

I hope we don’t have to wear them for months on end. I think it’s ridiculous to think student can wear these all day. Has anyone thought about how old the school buildings are? We complain because kids have no AC during the warm months but we want them to wear masks all day?

I guarantee China has a better ventilation systems and HVAC setup in their school buildings.

When I taught in the city schools and got stuck in a classroom that had no A/C, espcially on the upper floors, I use to die a thousand deaths from the heat. It's absolutely unbearable. One year I put a thermometer in my 3rd floor, NO A/C classroom and at one point it was over 100 degrees during a heat wave.

I cannot fathom even thinking about suffocating teachers and kids with masks in the hot months. You will have people passing out left and right.

OMG - if I have to wear a mask when I go back to work it's going to be such a blessing! The front desk person is always jumping at the bit to talk to me every.time.I.go.to.the.bathroom and it drives me nuts! But with a mask, I just just try to crinkle my eyes in a smile as a walk on by since she can't whip off her mask fast enough to launch into a story about her daughter before I'm already past her!

actually there is a video going around FB so who knows how true it is and I am not sure which country its representing (cant remember if they said it was china or somewhere else)

but basically it shows them spraying the kids down and there back packs down before entering. one part showed if they were wearing a mask they threw it out before entering. one part had some kids wearing hats with a clear shield over their face.

And honestly if they did that here and let them go back to school i would be ok with just to get them back!! Chat Icon

Re: Lets talk masks

I HATE wearing one. I wear a buff, so it wraps around my neck for easy on and off. For some reason the paper ones gross me out. I dont want to have to do this continuing into the summer. I just want this over already!!

When you said the clear shield thing- it reminded me of this- this was seriously the cutest thing I've seen related to this whole mess.
Apparently this was being done in Thailand.
I can't...

Re: Lets talk masks

I can't get masks here easily. I wear a bandanna. I'm not paying for surgical masks. Plus they take too long to deliver.

I hate wearing them. I took a vacation and went to the nice supermarket here. The mask made it impossible to breathe. I need a freaking Xanax to go to the supermarket.

I can't take this anymore.

lol..oh don’t get me wrong if my son had to wear an astronaut suit to go back to school, he’d be in there like Neil Armstrong on the first day. Lol!

I just don’t think it’s realistic and worry about kids / faculty passing out, as well as the extra burden for these teachers.

Same, we use the blue disposable masks & they’re very lightweight. I don’t mind wearing them in stores or busy areas. But I can’t run with one...I make sure I stay far away from people.

I wear an N95 and surgical mask 40 hours a week at work. I have a pounding migraine by hour 2. Only time I can take off is to eat and can’t be in a crowded area. If I needed to go somewhere at home I have 3 boxes of surgical masks and a cloth mask (2 each) for my twins and 2 cloths for my DH and I. I prefer the surgical so I can just toss them. I haven’t had to use any yet since we don’t go places as of now

I don’t mind wearing a mask. I have a neoprene one that Velcro’s around the back. It has filters that can be changed and it can be washed. I also have the white masks and the blue ones which are lightweight.

Re: Lets talk masks

I don’t mind wearing one. My neighbors MIL made ones w/ pocket for filter and wire in nose bridge. I wash after I wear them out. I also purchased some from techwearusa.com. DH loves those better than the homemade ones.

The worst part of it for me is the breaking out from Wearing it for too long at one time. I have constant pimples around my chin, lip, cheeks & nose too. The warmer it gets, the fast I sweat to death with it on.
But if wearing mask out mean we can get shit back to “normal” I’m fine w it
