Trump doesn't want us home because its affecting the economy and he wants people back to work... however, he wants total control of states. He has already threatened martial law when he said that if governors did not call in the national guard to end protesting, that he would. Pay attention folks... we are rapidly turning into a dictatorship.
I would LOVE to be all sunshine and say that the protests will "go away on their own" like people said Covid would, but realistically, that is NOT going to happen.
That's laughable. A) Without an economy, no one can survive. B) Covid is almost NILL at this point C) The Governor was offered help since his state was in shambles the last few nights. The Governor decides when he needs the help of the military and then would ask for it.
The only blame belongs on the governor and mayor in NY. The only one being a dictator is Cuomo.
I know I am in the minority when I say that I LOVE the way Cuomo has stepped up during this time. He has been strict yes, but that is exactly the reason WHY Covid is "nill" in NY.
I hope you are all right and that Covid and the riots will magically disappear... I am going to prepare myself and my family for another 6 months of unrest.
I agree. I actually was not a fan of some of his policies before but I think he handled the pandemic appropriately. He has my vote

I highly doubt it’s because of Cuomo’s decisions. Other states, and countries even, have had better results with less strict rules. I also think he’s moving into phases (or at least modifying each phase with more things added to them) because of the need to open the state, the pressure I’m sure he’s having must be intense especially since he’s not getting federal money anymore.

Yes, I have noticed the speeding up of things too. NYC hospitalizations doubled in the past 24 hours, from 45 to 84, yet phase 1 is starting on Monday. LI lost a metric, but still moving to phase 2 on Wednesday. I think he knows full well he has no choice at this point but to let reopening occur. This whole state is a disaster. Actually...this whole country is a disaster.

I read your comment last night, and I initially came on here angry... But I slept on it and I am not sure if you are TRYING to be snarky here. I will act as if you ARE NOT and answer your question since you seem confused by what "unrest" means.
un·rest /??n'rest/ noun a state of dissatisfaction, disturbance, and agitation in a group of people, typically involving public demonstrations or disorder.
Preparing for "unrest" means making sure my home is well stocked with supplies (food, paper products, medicine) for WHEN we are under another stay at home order... because that WILL happen again when the second wave hits... or for when these riots get out of control and martial law is declared. I do not feel the the need to purchase a "shot gun" as I am not a hunter, however, I am considering a small hand gun as I am a single mom of 3 kids to worry about.
I am a liberal democrat living on republican-NIMBY-Long Island and I am surrounded by people who HATE Cuomo (who I happen to LOVE), and I teach in a 100% "minority" school. I am realistic and not living in some fantasy Long Island bubble where pandemics "disappear" and riots "fizzle out". I am by NO means a "doomsday prepper", however, in these times of uncertainty and unrest, I would rather lean towards a worst case scenario. I have a lot of friends in law enforcement and in the military... I have spoken to most of them and get my information and advice from them. I get my medical advice from doctors and nurses.
So the consensus among the people I have spoken to is.....None of this is going to end anytime soon. And maybe I am wrong... God I hope I am and I hope all the people who I have spoken to are wrong as well... But I also know that unicorns do not exist and that our country has reached a breaking point. "Normal" is not happening any time soon.
I hope that I answered your question.

I was't trying to be snarky. I was genuinely curious. I do know what unrest is. But I wasn't sure how to prepare for it other than maybe arming yourself (if that is something you believe in). Things like stocking up on supplies, food, toilet paper, meds etc for the second wave of the virus, is not the same as preparing for months of unrest. That is what I was confused about because it's 2 separate issues. I really don't see marital law being declared either. But that wasn't my question anyway. I was just curious what people did to prepare for unrest. Thanks for answering.
