Has anyone taken Cipro without long term issues?
I was prescribed this for a bad diverticulitis infection and a uti. I remember years back about the tendon issue and other scary things with this drug and refused it once. I was not feeling good when this was prescribed the other day. I just agreed to take it. I see a separate sheet with script about warning. I decided to research more online and there are so many people with permanent damage due to this drug. Its scary. Im wondering if there are people who took the drug with no issues. I dont know what to do.

Re: Has anyone taken Cipro without long term issues?
I may have in the past. I used to get a lot of utis but it was years ago so I don't remember exactly but it sounds familiar. Were the people who suffered the scary side effects on it for just one course or longer term/multiple courses? Maybe speak with your doctor if you are concerned and see what they think. You were prescribed this at urgent care right? Maybe put a call into your own doctor today. Feel better!

Yes - I took it a few months ago for a bad UTI. I took it for 7 days, twice a day. No issues and my symptoms literally improved after the first pill. I would definitely take it again if I needed it. I recall reading the scary possible side effects and the doctor specifically asked if I’m a runner because of the tendon risk. But all was fine for me. Feel better!

Re: Has anyone taken Cipro without long term issues?
I found reviews of people on the drug and so many had debilitating life changing side effects. Some only took a few pills. I read somewhere they are trying to avoid using it unless for very serious issues.
Im on two meds for diverticulitis. I guess the cipro is treating that and the uti. Not sure if there is something else that I can switch to that will treat both conditions like the Cipro

Yes, it's a first line treatment for UTIs. The overwhelmingly vast majority will have absolutely no long term issues.
If you don't want to take it you can call the doctor and ask them to switch you to something else.

I took it for a week once, years ago....I think it may have been when I had pneumonia, but I could be wrong, I don't really remember. No side effects. But give your dr a call and see if they can switch you if you are concerned.

My husband took cipro 6 times in 6 months for 2 weeks at a time for chronic diverticulitis before his surgery. He had no tendon issues
I hope you feel better soon

Re: Has anyone taken Cipro without long term issues?
I was prescribed it once. I didn't have any long term side effects, but it did make me feel like my head was in a fog for days. I had to stop taking it because I couldn't do anything. I just felt like I had to lay down all day. I stopped taking it and had them switch it to something else. So weird because I never had that type of reaction before. I'm allergic to a few other antibiotics (so I'm not sure if that's why I had a reaction).

Re: Has anyone taken Cipro without long term issues?
I've taken Levaquin, same family of Cipro and had tendon issues. I took one dose and within a day I felt the effects of the tendon issues. Then I started looking it up. I now have it listed as a medicine I'm allergic to so I never get it again! There are many people with the same issue. I remember reading about it years ago. My tendon issues resolved, but it was about a year. Two of my friends also had the same issues. One needed surgery on her shoulder for the tendon tear.

Same here. I took the first night, woke up and my hands were clasped shut - couldn't open them for hours. Scary. Luckily after a few hours it subsided.
Ever since then it's on my allergy list - along with the whole 'quinalone' family.

Interesting. I am often prescribed Cipro for my Crohn's Disease flare ups. It always helps and I've never had any issues (knock on wood). But of course everyone is different.

I was on it for 10+ days back in January for a very bad infection in my colon that led to a UC diagnosis. Ive had no lasting side effects from it as far as I can tell.
