How much to pay / gift idea?
I have a friend who has not been working, because of Corona, but is still getting paid. He is bored out of his mind and trying to keep busy. He is coming to do some work at my house (change some light fixtures, and a few other "small" things like that) - will probably take a full day. These are things I would have hired someone to do. I know he is going to fight me when I try to pay him, but I want to do something/pay him. Any ideas on what to give him/how much to pay him? (we are good friends and I will take him out to dinner, but aside from that I want to pay him/give him something).
Thanks

Is there a kind of alcohol he likes? Wine or some kind of liquor? A bottle of something a little on the nicer end would be good.

That's a tough one because you don't want to insult him by giving too much or too little! I would go with a gift card to a local restaurant. Or maybe even to Home Depot. This way, it seems more like a thank you gift instead of a payment. You could put it in a thank you card with a nice note.
As for the amount, I really don't know -- around $150?? Although maybe closer to $200 is better? People are paying high school girls $15/hour to basically play with their school-aged kids. A grown man that is actually doing something requiring skill should be paid more than that! But, I don't know.

If you think he will feel weird about cash, what about making a donation to a charity that he relates to in his honor. Pay it forward.

I’ll definitely do that, but want to do something beyond that.

Does he like beer? Maybe a gift card to a local brewery? Or a winery?
