Sous vide

Does anyone have a sous vide stick?

I’m thinking this will be my Xmas gift this year. I found one that I like and it comes with a vacuum sealer as well. The thing is I do not have a container big enough for it. I have one that is close.

The brand I like says the container needs to be at least 7 inches high. My container (a pot) is 5.9 inches high. I don’t cook for large crowds, so this size is enough for me. I just don’t want to start a fire.

I've thought about it but the one I want is $200 and I don't know that I would use it enough to justify the cost.

I don't know how it works if your pot is too small but that's a good point. I'm not sure if I'd use it in a smaller pot. Maybe you can get a new pot for Christmas, too!

Sous vide

I have one and use it 1-2 times a month. Size of container depends on how much food you are cooking. Need to be able to submerge the food and have space for the sou vide. I bought a plastic tub from local ratirant supply place for less than $20. I have the Anova and love that it has an app to control from my phone.

Re: Sous vide

Do you guys use a vacuum sealer or just ziplock bags? I’m thinking of skipping the sealer and getting a plastic container instead.

I LOVE mine. It really works very well. I bought one at Sur La Table (around $120ish I think) and I use it with my large cast iron 6 qt Dutch oven. The meat comes out so tender and juicy and you really don't have to think about or fuss with whatever you are cooking. I also grabbed the sous vide cookbook by America's Test Kitchen, it's excellent. You won't be disappointed if you get one.

6 quart is big enough? That’s what I have. But everywhere I have read says 12 quart is what you need.

ETA my pot is 6 quarts but it is only 6 inches high.

I want one. The meat I’ve eaten that’s been cooked with a Sous vide has been consistently delicious. I will say, if you prefer things well done, I would skip. FIL likes everything practically burned, and he could never eat something cooked with a Sous Vide.

Sorry, I used my 7qt (not 6) and my sous vide stick and food is completely submerged. I also have a tall stock pot that works.

I got the Anovo one last year on prime day. You do really need to vacuum seal. The pot does need to be deep but you can also buy a sous vide container if your pot not deep enough. They on Amazon as well.
