Extra payment from Employer
Need advice. My employer wants to give me an extra payment for extra work that I did over and above my usual work load.
I am the only employee but we do hire a payroll company to process my salary and annual bonus. This would be in addition to that.
Do I have to process this through payroll?
The sum is less than $4,000.
Thank you!

Normally yes it would be processed as a bonus since you are an employee.
If they give you a W9 like a contractor it will be a lot more work for you at tax time as then you have to pay the employee and employer portions of taxes and stuff.

Re: Extra payment from Employer
Yes because it's taxable. It cannot just be written from a checkbook.
