Summer Fun Recommendation - If you don't have a pool
If anyone is looking for fun things to do with the kids this summer, especially swim, take a look at Life Time. (LIFE TIME CLUBS)
It's a little pricey BUT when I compared it against joining town pools or country club pools it ended up being in line or slightly cheaper with more included amenities. The outdoor pools are gorgeous, it feels like you're at a resort. They have a large lap pool, free swim pools, water slides, and little kid areas. There is also a large hot tub and indoor pools as well. There are plenty of lounge chairs and cabanas for relaxing along with a full service cafe outside. They also provide really clean and beautiful family locker rooms along with complimentary pool towels. It feels like you're on vacation at home.
Outside of swimming you get two hours a day of the Kids Club included with your membership which includes fitness classes, arts and crafts, gymnastics room, basketball and other fun activities for the kids. They also offer weekly camps (full and half day) for an additional charge. You also get a monthly parents night out included where you can drop off the kids one night a month from 5-9pm for supervised fun.
If you catch a break by using the Kids Club you can check out the in house spa for a massage or manicure, take a fitness class or workout. It's really a beautiful facility and SPOTLESS from top to bottom. Also, it's month to month with NO contracts so you can cancel or put the membership on hold at any point.
Anyway, just wanted to share because I am always looking for ways to keep the kids busy over the summer and so far this place has been GREAT! It's not crazy busy, it's so relaxing and the kids absolutely LOVE the pools. I know there are a few locations on the island and in the city and from what I understand they are all designed and built the same. It's worth checking out. Happy summer!

There is one in Garden City and one in Syosset. Both look nice and I was somewhat disappointed when they didn't open one closer to me but ultimately we decided to join a country club. And we also have a pool so wouldn't be worth it to join just for the pool aspect. Not to mention my kids have pretty much aged out of any kids club activities.

We don't have a pool and I couldn't go through another summer listening to my kids whining about not being able to swim. My DS is still young enough for the Kids Club and my DD is right on the edge of aging out so it's still worth it but if my kids were older, I agree with you that it would be a wasted benefit that you're obviously paying for.
