For those who are scared we might be attacked with our own equipment left behind.link

I never said I was scared they would use our stuff on us?? I was more upset that it was all left behind, and now they have their hands on it.

Yep and will likely use American equipment to take innocent lives. Horrible.

Re: What was left behind...
There is always stuff left over from wars. They still find bombs here from ww2 that need to be detonated when they are building stuff here. It was kind of worrying when it happened by me twice (two different areas). That kills innocent lives.

Yeah it’s not that uncommon. DH was in Iraq twice (maybe three?) times and told me this. It costs so much to transport back that sometimes it’s not worth it.

So what would you expect them to have done? Realistically? They left it for their military, were we just supposed to pull out and destroy what we were providing them so they had no way to defend themselves? Please explain what the point of us being there for the last 20 years was for if we were just going to leave them with nothing?

If it was an organized pullout the equipment would have be turned over to their military that would have (presumably) not fled out of fear. The equipment wasn’t “left for the military” it was basically abandoned and anyone could access it. That’s the distinction.

Journalist Hollie McKay was in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif when Afghan security forces fled ahead of advancing Taliban fighters last weekend. In the aftermath, the road out of town was littered with U.S.-made armored vehicles that the Afghan military had left behind. ... Similar scenes have been repeated across the country: In the weeks before the Taliban seized Kabul, retreating Afghan forces ditched billions of dollars' worth of U.S.-supplied military hardware — from assault rifles to Black Hawk helicopters. ... The U.S. military removed planes, heavy weapons and sophisticated military equipment as it began winding down its operations in Afghanistan in the spring. But it couldn't take home 20 years of accumulated hardware and instead left much of it to the Afghan military. National security adviser Jake Sullivan acknowledged as much earlier this week. ...

And who exactly abandoned it? The U.S. or Afghan army?

Well since it belonged the the US, paid with US dollars, and the US troops made a hasty departure, I would argue the United States.

Golden only copy and pastes. He doesn’t actually have a discussion about things.

Re: What was left behind...
I saw on the news (whether it is correct) that it was left at the military base by the airport, and not taken from Afghan army, so who knows. I understand not being able to take the hummers, and helicopters, and jeeps, but all those guns and ammunition should have never been just left.
