Good luck with this new mayor too.

Wasn't really a surprise...

So many people who work in these city jobs - aren't eligible to vote (even though they do have to pay non-resident employee taxes to the city still).

They got rid of the city tax for non residents years ago, no? I didn't have to pay it for years working in the city and I stopped working in the city 14 years ago.

They didn't get rid of it for those who work for the city.

Oh gotcha. I thought you meant the 4% commuter tax everyone used to pay. It makes sense that city employees have to pay the tax but frankly at one time city employees were required to live in the city, so this is a benefit. I don't think you can really complain about paying the tax and not getting to vote. That is a choice that you have that was not always available.

We moved OOS but our company is based in NYC, so we had to get vaccinated. Couldn’t escape it ! We also planned to come up for Christmas but my 13 yo is not vaxxed just yet, so we can’t come up. He wouldn’t be allowed to do any of the things he wants. I do know some of the city workers are going for the shot out of fear of job and pension loss. This is exactly what the powers that be wanted.

The NYC restaurant and entertainment mandate has been in effect for many weeks….I assume there are only a small handful of covid cases there now?

Yes and major spikes on Long Island because they aren't requiring it. Right?
From what I saw in Farmingdale tonight the bars and restaurants are PACKED. Spilling into the streets, shoulder to shoulder. No masks. No vaccine requirements. But that's ok because it isn't in the confines of NYC? Yes, yes, makes total sense.

Every place is packed. We had to put our name on a list for dinner last night as we had over 6 people and then still had an hour and a half wait. We left the restaurant at 9:30, they close at 11 and there were people pouring in to eat.

Any day of the week people are out and places are packed and they are shoulder to shoulder. I have yet to see one person have Covid who is testing with me, as yes, I am still not vaccinated and test weekly. This week twice the way my work week fell.

This is really what I don't understand. Why is it ok on Long Island to enter a restaurant with no proof of vax, but not in NYC? What's the difference?
Someone please explain this one to me.
I'm all ears.

And lets look at Florida for an example. NO MANDATES and cases have come down 90 percent since August actually their current case numbers put them as one of the lowest states in the entire country right now.

There is also new research that came out saying that vaccinated people are just as likely to spread covid to their families as unvaccinated. I don't understand what the justification is for the mandates at this point.

Yes the numbers have dropped here significantly. Few months ago Jacksonville was all over the news about how terrible things were here. Now, crickets.
