Researching a doctor
Does anyone know how to research a potential surgeon to see if there have been any past complaints/lawsuits against them? Trying to make a decision and it’s all so confusing. Thanks!

It's not always accurate and up to date but most of the information is there.
Just know that most surgeons will be sued in their career. I think it is more surprising if they don't ever get sued. Bear in mind that if you see a lawsuit with his/her name in it, it does not necessarily mean they did anything wrong; they may just be taken along for the ride because they treated the plaintiff who had a poor outcome. For example, if the doctor is being sued for a post-op infection, most times that has absolutely nothing to do with his/her surgery. They may be named in the lawsuit because they assisted the primary surgeon. If you look and there are multiple settlements on the record, I would give it the side eye but if they just appear in the caption, that would not influence me.
It's more important to check their credentials. Particularly where they did their residency and if they did a fellowship. Education is important but if they were trained at a premier facility, that outweighs whatever education they received.
