How long does it take to get used to glasses?
I'm trying to decide if I'm just not used to them or if there is something wrong with the glasses.
I picked them up last week. They are for distance in one eye. I am supposed to use them for driving, particularly at night. If I am looking straight ahead, i can definitely read signs, etc. clearer but I feel like I have no depth perception and my peripheral vision is all whacky in both eyes. And they hurt my eyes. Like I have to take the glasses off every so often to give my eyes a break. Is this normal?

I get new glasses every year, and my prescription doesn't change very much, but I'm usually used to the new prescription within an hour. I would bring them back and tell them about your issues. Glasses shouldn't hurt your eyes.

Okay thank you. This is my first time with glasses so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'll bring them back.

If it's your first time, it *will* take longer to get used to than subsequent glasses. There will be some slight distortion at the edges of the lenses that you will learn to get used to. But, you should get used to them within a day or so. You can always go back to where you got them from and talk about the issues. Sometimes it's your eyes adjusting, but sometimes it is the lenses or frames. If the frames are a little bit uneven on your eyes, things could look off. Everyone that makes glasses is used to people coming back and getting adjustments, changes, etc to their glasses until they work properly.

My glasses are for distance only and I had to do eye exercises for a little bit to strengthen them. Things were too wonky and blurry for me close up. Once I completed them, no more issues for me.
Could you tell me about the eye exercises? I’m in the same boat. My new glasses work great for driving, but I’m still using my old ones for distances not so far, i.e. in a big room to see people at the back of the room.
