Re: People who WFH, what do you do?
Also IT
We do have a physical office. Departments such as shipping and Tech Center go in daily; plus a few stragglers that choose to.
I do go in 2x a week; whichever days I choose to. I like doing both.

People are quitting left and right (after they gave everyone a 7% raise and a chance for a 4-6 week paid leave every 5 years after you hit 15 years).
Are people crazy??? WFH AND all of this and they are quitting?
The market is really good right now. It is very competitive. We have people who moved out of state and they aren't doing a thing about it. Maybe once things get a little tighter, things will change. As of now...there is no carrot and no stick in terms of showing up at work. I have heard similar reports across the industry.
(And frankly, based on my ability to get a seat on the LIRR when I go in, I don't think it's that uncommon.)
Wow. From the media we are all starving and can’t put gas in our tanks lol
I've also read a few articles on LinkedIn about layoffs happening at large companies. Let me see if I can find it. The market is STARTING to change, but slowly...it says the demand for workers is still high
Announcements of layoffs, hiring freezes and rescinded job offers have roiled the tech industry and startup community for several months. Now companies across multiple sectors are making staff cuts as executives worry about a possible recession and weigh "all manner of adverse near-term effects on their businesses," Puck writes. Despite those mounting signs of economic trouble, CNBC notes that overall employer demand for workers “remains extremely high” and that layoffs are "near historical lows.”
Article from Linkedin
We had massive layoffs at my company due to the market. It's happening.

If you like what you are doing, I wouldn’t make a move right now. There are a ton of layoffs with much more to come. The bigger tech firms are already pointing out low productivity with people working from home and the economy is going to take a hit w all of these layoffs. If you like it, stick it out because most of us will be back in office soon or worse (jobless). We all knew this wouldn’t last forever. Good luck to the people who moved out of state away from their jobs.

Agree. I could have seen this coming a mile away People really thought the world had changed and they could dictate they don't want to come to an office anymore, even part time. Nothing lasts forever. I'm hearing of a ton of layoffs lately. Soon the employers are going to have the upper hand again to be honest.

They’ve always had the upper hand. You guys need better labor laws, tbh.

True. But recently with the labor shortages etc it had become easier to negotiate things like wfh, more money etc. I'm seeing that start to swing back a bit

Re: People who WFH, what do you do?
I work in admin/accounting for a law firm. It's a new department and we have different teams within our department. There's a team that deals with expenses/invoices (my team), one the deals with proofreading/document services, another for travel, another for timesheets, etc.
I had been in admin/reception in office for 15 years when they dreamed up this new department and I applied. I actually have less responsibility (or I guess, "different" responsibilities, less varied- they kind of threw a lot of random work at us when I was in office), higher pay, and work from home permanently. It has been life changing.
On the down side, I feel like I actually work MORE or harder and have more oversight. We have a lot of checks in place to make sure we're actually at our desks. When I was in office I felt free to get up and use the restroom, get coffee, run to the bank, etc. and I didn't really have to log in or out unless I was going to lunch. Now, if I'm away from my desk for more than 3 minutes, my Teams goes yellow indicating I am idle and the bosses really don't like that. But I also hate having to let someone know every time I pee and feeling like I'm being timed for simple, human tasks.

That would completely stress me out!

They sell devices that keep your mouse moving to keep your status green. That's some bullshyt...what if you have bad stomach issues? Do they want to know I'm blowing up the bathroom for 15 minutes because I have no gallbladder and ate too much fat? Treating people like kindergarteners is not a good look.

You can also change the time setting - to keep it green longer. Or you can download the app to your phone and keep it open there.

We have something similar with Skype, and the green status light. I go the opposite way. Mine is set permanently as "away". Those who know me IM "You there?".

We can't change the settings- it's set by our administrator. And it does stress me out! We're required to be "green" and put on our away message when we're to lunch or out of office. But I was griping about this to my mom the other day and of course Amazon listened and sent me an ad for the "mouse jiggler". I'm going to try it!

Yes, me too. That is micromanaging to the 100th degree! On my WFH days I sometimes dip out just to run to the bank or some other short errand, but I am still working/doing my job.
On the other hand now with my hybrid schedule, I am now forced to find coverage for days I am out of the office and its my designated "In Office" day... so for example if I want to use vacation or scheduled sick time and its not my WFH day, it is now my responsibility to find out if my coworker who works the opposite WFH schedule can cover for me, even though there is a body in the office already... which now stresses me out more.
I have been applying like crazy and had a few interviews and no luck yet.

Be careful. There was just an article about a women who downloaded it and her IT dept found it and they fired her for it.

They probably did her a favor. Who wants to work at a company that treats you like a toddler where you have to ask permission to use the bathroom in your own home? In that case, force them back into the office so you can watch them like prisoners all day.
