Favorite holiday/party apps?

I was just informed we are hosting a Christmas party for DH's family. Just apps. Suggestions for easy apps? Can be hot or cold. Tell me your favorite things to make or have!

Hot clam dip - tastes like the inside of a baked clam without the shell. I have the recipe if you want it

Spinach dip in a bread bowl

The mini frozen quiches

The assorted frozen apps from like Costco

Shrimp cocktail

Re: Favorite holiday/party apps?

Hot Clam Dip

1 stick butter or margarine
2 chopped cloves garlic
2 cans minced clams
1 teaspoon parsley
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon grated parmesan cheese
1 cup bread crumbs
1 teaspoon lemon juice
10 drops Tabasco sauce
Paprika (optional) (I don't use this)

Preheat oven to 350° F. Melt butter or margarine in frying pan and sauté garlic. Add 2 cans of clams with juice. Simmer about 3 minutes. Add dash of lemon juice and Tabasco sauce.

Mix in a bowl- bread crumbs, grated cheese, oregano, and parsley. Combine the wet ingredients to the dry.

Place in baking pan. (I use a corningware dish) Top mixture with a dash of paprika if using. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve with crackers or crusty bread pieces

My mom used to make something like this all the time and I had forgotten about it until yesterday and was talking about it with my friend as she had a box of Ritz Crackers she didnt know what to do with (long story lol).

On top of appetizers mentioned above, we do pigs in blankets, baked brie, and buffalo chicken dip at gatherings.

Also plain old chips, salsa and melted cheese.

I was just saying to my brother that I want to make my grandmother's baked clams but I don't have the giant clam shells to put the stuffing in like she used to do. This would be a nice alternative.

See recipe above! Chat Icon
I know that party city sells like little aluminum foil clam shaped shells you can put the filling in.
But it's just easier to serve it like this with crackers or bread pieces.

Re: Favorite holiday/party apps?

Another good idea is to get a couple strombolis- Lidl has them, and I'm sure the supermarket, and cut them up into pieces and serve with a side of marinara sauce

I usually do empanadas. You can assemble the night before and just quickly fry day of.

Re: Favorite holiday/party apps?

I second Costco and BJs apps. I would do some sort of sliders for substance.

-sliders
-charcuterie / make your own sandwich bar
-salad
-stuffed mushrooms
-cheese or crap dip
-pigs in a blanket
-bruchetta or a flatbread
-meatballs

Also love anything with Brie. You can bark it on the oven, drizzle honey over it and sever with pita chips, crackers or crostini. So easy and yummy.

-shrimp cocktail
-clam dip
-anchovy

I made this smoked salmon and cucumber appetizer for Thanksgiving (I made a couple of modifications because I had a dill sauce in the house), and it was a big hit:
