If you didn't bank the cord blood......
why not? Was it because of the money or for some other reason? I still can't decide what to do.

Honestly - we felt really weird about it - I am not a big religious fanatic by any means but I kind of felt like it wasn't natural in some way....like against God's will...I have no clue how to explain it.

Re: If you didn't bank the cord blood......
I wasn't gonna do it cause of the $$$ but then someone on this site mentioned that health care providers get a professional discount so I couldn't Not do it. It only cost us $500 upfront with Life bank usa. Just thought i'd mention it again so people check to see if they can get a discount.

Re: If you didn't bank the cord blood......
I would never NOT do it. Regardless of money it can be life saving, I personally know of a few families who have had their children's lives saved because of stem cell banking. Godforbid you need it you'll kick yourself in the butt if the doctor asks if you banked and you didn't. It's just like insurance, you hope not to need it, but if you do, you;re glad you have it!! I have used Viacord with each birth. Viacord will work with you financially, they make it workable. FM me if I can be of more assistance, my Mom sits on the board of Make-a-wish, Cancer Care, Friends of Karen, The Sunrise Committee and worked on the pediatric oncologu unit at tony Brook for MANY years and the stories she could tell you about lives that have been spared because of stem cells would make you fnd any way possible to pay for cord cell banking.

Her question was for those that didn't do it and their reasons.... not to start a debate on why she should do it or to be told that "you'll kick yourself in the butt.. if you didn't"
I personally think it is too new of technique and in in our wonderful military healthcare system I was never asked about doing it either. I know that it offers many mom's piece of mind but when my husband and I discussed it briefly we both agreed that more research has to be done to prove cord blood's safety and effectiveness. And harvested blood may not contain enough of the potent stem cells needed for a life-saving treatment. The way we look at is that God doesn't make mistakes and he doesn't give you more then you can handle and if you yourself get sick or you have a sick child sometimes medicine doesn't have an answer to everything and as of right now I don't think cord blood is the answer either. I don't consider it insurance it can't prove 100% to knock out all illnesses. If you or your baby was only meant to be on this earth for a short period of time so be it and make the most out of the time you have.
The (yes, right now) odds are against a family ever needing cord blood, saying between one in 1,000 children and one in 200,000 will ever need stem cells.
In the future we may do it, but as of right now it wasen't recommended to us and it was too much of an expense with too little promise.

I didn't mean to start a debate, Dani mentioned she was undecided, so I was giving her the flip side of the issue. Relax, if you feel that strongly that you made the right decision, there should be no reason to get defensive and feel this could turn into a debate. I totally respect your decision based on "God's will", I was just trying to help. Since I have seen the benefits, I felt it would be an injustice not to report what I know.
