Okay - now a serious answer to your question...Call BarkBusters. Many people have had success with them, you pay a flat fee and they will train your dog. If you have any future problems they will come back and help fix it.
Good Luck!

The poor dog is just a bit freaked out. It's actually entirely understandable when you consider what's happened to the environment of the home. No one's fault... they just don't understand.

I'd recommend a trainer as well. The dog is acting out and seeking negative attention. I'm sorry I don't know of any personally but my friend used one for her puppy I can call her and ask if you want.

Please everyone, RELAX, she asked for HELP. She wants what's best for all involved and as a new mom is probably a bit overwhelmed right now even getting the baby on a routine. She's not looking to "dump" the dog.

Let's all stop assuming and attacking.

I am sorry you are going through this..I am sure it is very upsetting to you.

I also have a 2 month old and a 1 year old dog. Thank god, so far I have not had any real problems with the dog adjusting. When the baby is sleeping or with my DH, i try and give the dog lots of attention, playing and cuddling with her.
Even if I only have 2 minutes to give I will make sure I do. I also make sure everytime I come in the house I say hi and pet her first before I do anything else.
I also started giving her a treat everytime I give the baby a bath, b/c she would stand behind me and be looking for attention, so I try and make it about her too.

It def takes time and extra energy which I know is hard to find with a newborn. If you have tried everything, i would def invest in a trainer.

I am sorry some people need to be rude and turn everything into drama or a joke when someone like yourself innocently asks for help and advice!

Lots of Luck to you and Congratualtions on your daughter!!!

Re: Please Help !!!!

When I said here we go, I meant get ready for some to attack. In no way, does your question imply that you want to get rid of your dog!

He needs to adjust, and it takes an animal quite a while. Remember, he used to be the baby, now he isnt anymore. I am sure he will grow out of it. Just try and give him as much attention as you can, to still make him feel like he is #1 around the house. The peeing is all a part of stress, and the chewing is him being spiteful. It is not unusual for a dog to do this when a baby comes into the house. He just needs so extra love.

Natures Miracle really DOES work, but you cannot just put a little bit on the area, you have to completely saturate the couch until it is soaked, so the enzymes kill the ammonia smell from the urine.

TRy Simple Solution. YOu can order it from Warren Eckstein's website.

simple solution

Please don't yell or hit the dog if he/she continues to urinate on the couch. Remember the dog is going through a hard transition too.

Good luck.Chat Icon

PS- Eckstein has a free call in radio show and great books on treating different pet behavior.

By the way, I was the person who gave you real advice. I was laughing at Holla's comment cuz she was saying that it's going to be the same old thing with everyone judging.

Oh yeah and here's the website...BarkBusters

Re: Please Help !!!!

want to apologize to everyone. i just don't want this thread to get out of hand. i am looking for help and only knew to turn to this board for it.
on another note. i didn't know yo had to saturate the area. i thought all you did was spray. also, my dog only wants to play while am feeding my girl. other times while she is in her crib he doesn't want to play.

Re: Please Help !!!!

Maybe you should try introducing her to the baby...also, take her outside to play, this way the baby isn't a factor. Obviously, do it while someone can watch the baby.

Re: Please Help !!!!

I have an 8 month old baby and a 4 year old dog, I can appreciate your situation. It's def an attention problem. Was the dog well trained before the baby??? I put my American Bulldog into baby bootcamp during my pregnancy. I tugged on her ears, poked and prodded her while she was eating, even had a doll around and had her do nice to the doll and familiarize her with a small "baby." Are you giving the dog her own alone time with you?? After my DD goes to bed, we spend time cuddled up with the dog. I always make it a point when holdiing my DD to address the dog, all day long I'm keeping the dog involved and not ignoring her. I would keep scolding to a minimum. The situation is freaking the dog out and yelling to correct will only make it worse. In this case I think time will make it better. Hopefully as the dog gets used to the baby the problem will cease. Good Luck!!Chat Icon

i think i have tried every enzyme-containing cleaning product on the market! in my experience, 'get serious' is a really good one - i've found that it works better than nature's miracle, jmo.
